BBY Removes ?Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas"
Thursday, July 21, 2005
In compliance with our policy not to carry adult-only (AO) games, Best Buy is immediately taking steps to remove all copies of the now AO-rated game ?Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas? from all of our North American stores. Earlier today, the ESRB adjusted the game?s rating from Mature (M) to AO. We also have stopped selling the game on bestbuy.com, bestbuy.ca and futureshop.ca. This decision applies to both the game console and PC formats. Our decision reflects the commitment we have to our customers to help them make informed decisions. Best Buy is a strong proponent of the ESRB ratings system.

We will continue to work with them to ensure that the ratings system is a meaningful way to help customers make educated video game purchases. With our decision to stop selling ?Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas,? we hope to send a strong message to game developers encouraging full cooperation with the ESRB.

Rockstar is removing the code entirely and will ship a new version that will be M rated again, so it will return to Best Buy (and I'm assuming other stores like Wal-Mart who are bound to pull the game as well)

there is hidden porn code in damn near everything, probably. i wouldn't be surprised if there was some in excel. like the flight sim that is stuck in there.

and changing the console rating is just stupid. how do you access it? you can hack the pc version but i doubt anyone is hacking the console version.

if it wasn't the buggiest game on the planet i'd go and get a copy of it right now

Rockstar's Plan:

1.Make new GTA
2.Put sex in it
3.Let ppl see it
4.Ppl get outrated
5.GTA:SA removed from shelves
6.???-->MAKE ME WANT TO PLAY IT
7.PROFIT!!!!!

How many millions of copies already sold? Considering it came out on PS2 in October I think, and I know it sold TONS on PS2, so at least it was sold for Xbox and PC for a while.

Rockstar won't lose any money from all of this, in fact the publicity caused by it might help sales since people will be searching high and low for these copies before they disappear.

Very doubtful. Controversy sells the game. This is free advertising. They've probably been promoted.

Actually that is the opposite of the truth. By removing the game they are taking the decision completely out of the hands of their customers.

I don't get it. I've not heard of anyone accessing the content on anything other than the PC version.
And overall, it's goofy. You have to be aware of the mod (the media's done a great job increasing the awareness of the mod) and you have to find it, then install it properly.
Or, you could probably download some porn just as easily. Is it worse because you push buttons to make pixelated people simulate sex, rather than watching some hardcore XXX?

Next thing you know, Windoze will have a health warning because of what it does to sysadmins' blood pressures :)
