While I was replacing my noisy as heck mini super orb I accidently broke off half of the capacator or chip looking thing on my t-bird.

It's right under the L3 notches, it's the black looking thing with 4 metal clips on either side - I broke 4 of them off. I was wondering if this affects my performance because right now it's running and I don't really see any difference.

Haha this leads me to believe all these things on the chips are cosmetic. Maybe next thing i find out you don't really need a heatsink. . .

I'll have to look at one, maybe they are eproms to ID the CPU correctly to the motherboard?

I'm assuming they don't put those things there for nothing, what is it for though?
