The sale section right now is really active, but it is kind of a mess. Every sale of every type of item is lumped together. If you count the number of the actual active bulletins I usually find it is somewhere between 30-50 or so listings. If there were specific sections for specific sales of items, then there would need to be less thread bumping and people could find what thing they were looking for much easier. I have seen this used on the OCN, and it actually made the sales section much more active, because it attracted both more buyers and sellers.

Its hard to understand the reasoning behind no. What makes this a bad idea?

It was tried in the past and met with a resounding outcry to change it back. If you'd have searched in this section or forum wide, you'd have that answer already and wouldn't have even needed to make this thread.

Care to link these discussions for me? A search for "sale" in the suggestions section yields 12 results. Non of the topics are quite similar to mine. Maybe I was unclear in the OP?

I'm not going to go dig for them. You made a suggestion, I gave an answer. I don't have the time nor desire to justify it for one members request.

Ok, what is the correct way for me to argue for this then? I searched the whole forum for sale and the result is overwhelming. I searched a few different key words in suggestions and I can't find any discussion of breaking up the sale section, or of wanting to change the sale section after the fact. I have been a member for two years now, I use the sale section on a regular basis, I can never remember it being broken up in the way I am suggesting.

Here is what I suggest

Instead of having a sales section for the sales of all items, how about instead we have specific sales sections for specific items. For instance. software might be sold in a different section then hardware. CPUs might be sold in a different section than hard drives, or peripherals. The break up I think makes the most sense to me would be the following sections

Video- for graphics cards, monitors, and graphics related accessories

Core Components - for CPU, motherboards, memory

Other components - which might include power supplies, hard drives, SSD drives, and computer cases. Maybe coolers, heatsinks, and water cooling as well.

Software - games, OS, ect

In the event that a person has a lot of different items to sell, instead of having one huge thread, they could have several smaller threads, posted in the correct sections based on what that item is.

This plan has several pros that I can see:

*it makes everything easier to find for the buyer. Finding a specific item in the sale section is very difficult right now. This would focus a search in the way that searching the forum would not.

*Sellers don't have to compete for space on the front page as vigorously. For every section added, that is another front page. The more the threads get split up, the easier to find for buyers, the more page time for the seller. Less thread bumping.

*In some respects moderating would be easier. More clearly defined rules for members and administrators.

cons that I can see

*its change
*would make moderating more difficult in some ways trying to force the organization

Counter points are welcome. I would like to discuss this if possible, thank you.

The FS/FT section here is not large enough to warrant creating several subcategories and the amount of moderation required in all of those subforums would be enormous, particularly if individuals are creating different threads in all of the categories.

The limited benefit would not outweigh the potential cost in my opinion.

I can understand from a mod stand point why that is such a big concern. I participate in both systems a lot (my idea isn't really unique). The organization really is a huge benefit. And it has been my experience that the members really appreciate and benefit from the system so you don't see as much weirdness. Mostly just moving threads to more appropriate sections.

This^^^

We can barely keep up with what is happening now in FS/T. What is proposed would be too much work and too great a risk for thieves/trolls getting through.

FS/T works well just as it is, but thanks for the suggestions.

it would be a pain in the ass for the sellers to make a different thread for each type of item they have. for many that would be like 10 different threads when right now all they do is just dump it all into one.

if anything just make the searching better. try to get more people to use tagging, and maybe for the for sale thread allow more then 5 tags....
