This news reminded me of this classic:

"Bitter after being snubbed for membership in the "Axis of Evil," Libya, China, and Syria today announced they had formed the "Axis of Just as Evil," which they said would be more evil than that stupid Iran-Iraq-North Korea axis President Bush warned of in his State of the Union address.

Axis of Evil members, however, immediately dismissed the new axis as having, for starters, a really dumb name. "Right. They are Just as Evil...in their dreams!" declared North Korean leader Kim Jong-il. "Everybody knows we're the best evils... best at being evil...we're the best."

Diplomats from Syria denied they were jealous over being excluded, although they conceded they did ask if they could join the Axis of Evil.

"They told us it was full," said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. "An Axis can't have more than three countries," explained Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. "This is not my rule, it's tradition. In World War II you had Germany, Italy, and Japan in the evil Axis. So, you can only have three, and a secret handshake. Ours is wickedly cool."

International reaction to Bush's Axis of Evil declaration was swift, as within minutes, France surrendered.

Elsewhere, peer-conscious nations rushed to gain triumvirate status in what became a game of geopolitical chairs.

Cuba, Sudan, and Serbia said they had formed the "Axis of Somewhat Evil," forcing Somalia to join with Uganda and Myanmar in the "Axis of Occasionally Evil," while Bulgaria,Indonesia and Russia established the "Axis of Not So Much Evil Really As Just Generally Disagreeable."

With the criteria suddenly expanded and all the desirable clubs filling up...Sierra Leone, El Salvador, and Rwanda applied to be called the "Axis of Countries That Aren't the Worst But Certainly Won't Be Asked to Host the Olympics."

Canada, Mexico, and Australia formed the "Axis of Nations That Are Actually Quite Nice But Secretly Have Some Nasty Thoughts About America," while Scotland, New Zealand and Spain established the "Axis of Countries That Be Allowed to Ask Sheep to Wear Lipstick." "That's not a threat, really, just something we like to do," said Scottish Executive First Minister Jack McConnell.

While wondering if the other nations of the world weren't perhaps making fun of him, a cautious Bush granted approval for most axis, although he rejected the establishment of the Axis of Countries Whose Names End in "Guay," accusing one of its members of filing a false application. Officials from Paraguay, Uruguay, and Chadguay denied the charges.

Israel, meanwhile, insisted it didn't want to join any Axis, but privately, world leaders said that's only because no one asked them."

from the article:
"The pilot, identified as Dale Robin Hirsch, raised his middle finger at police to protest new Brazilian security measures that require U.S. citizens to be fingerprinted and photographed upon entering the South American country.

Brazil implemented the policy on January 1 in retaliation for a similar U.S. program that requires those foreign visitors who need visas to have their fingerprints and pictures taken on arrival in the United States"

It's good they are doing this!

First- yeah, it's silly.

Second- Where does it's say a felony? I missed that.

Third- If you flipped the bird at many authorities in the US, you would probably get worse.

Fourth- only an idiot makes such gestures at authorities, and expects nothing to happen. Being an American in Brazil or a Brazilian in the US makes no difference.

He will probably be brought before a judge, and pay a fine, or get the boot.

Hmm, yeah, not a very smart thing to do to anyone in a position of authority. Hell, a New York cop would'a busted him up.

You're clueless.

As for Brazil who's livlihood is partly dependent on tourism...I think they're kicking themselves in the nuts with this pettiness...but they have a right to do whatever they feel is necessary.

You are an idiot. As someone who was beaten severely by police in this country as a 14 year old, I can authoritatively say you are the one who is clueless.

For flipping them the bird?

As for police brutality, it happens in every country. I'm sorry it happened to you though.

Hero u are very clueless.

A german woman was arrested and send back upon entering the US for making a joke: As far as I recall: Upon being searched by the security she said" U dont need to look there, the bomb is in the suitcase".

Hero, Brazil's livelihood depends on us. Hey, I'll book my vacation there right after I get back from France. Add Factor 1: (1) Half of us consider the U.S. a semi-fascist state that has its head where the sun doesn't shine; and (2) Without any reference to what we feel, many of these foreign countries are getting fed up mucho, as they say in South America. What do 1 and 2 add up to? Here we call it the "officer attitude test." And, I guarantee that if you don't pass it, you will not pass go.

This is fun :)

B00ne, "u r" very clueless.

As we know, even making jokes about prohibited materials is a crime in a federal airport.

Winston: What did you do to deserve a tune-up? Don't lie, I'm sure you did something to piss them off;) I've been beaten senseless by cops as well. But I deserved it...

Sure, I'll tell ya.

I was walking down the street on my way home from school. A police car with two officers pulled onto the sidewalk, and one of them got out and beat me with a nightstick. I was a little foggy on what happened next, but I heard the other one in the car yell out something like "no, that's the wrong guy". My attacker got back in the car and left me there bleeding while they drove off.

There ya go.

I think I want my pilot and crew thinking about flying planes instead of some arrogant-political stand in a foreign Port.

Funny, I think that's probably how most Brazilians feel about their government right now too. :)

Afraid not. This was back years and years ago, since I am an old codger :D

What we were told was we could press charges, fine, and it would be their word against mine. Of course I would be charged with resisting arrest. I came from a family with no financial reserve (aka broke) and to hire a lawyer with no chance of winning would not have been practical.

Sometimes you just have to accept things.

BTW, HoP

I apologize for calling you an idiot. I sometimes get a bit touchy about such things as how civilian authorities may act when ticked off, for reasons I think you understand now. I can see how someone not in my shoes might think I was clueless.

I'll reserve my scathing rapier replies for other purposes ;)

Oh, I still think you're clueless. Being a victim, I'm sure you see all Amerian cops through that prizm of brutality, though.

And I never take name calling seriously around here. I dish it out liberally (no pun intended) and take it with the same semi good natured spirit with which I give it.

So much for the olive branch :p

Anyway, I know many cops (particularly the local ones here) who are good guys. What it has done is make me more aware of the mentality of some.
On the other hand, I learned later in life to dish it out as needed. I chose to get it right though.

I have reason to be familiar with security types beyond my early experience, and I am saying people can have a helluva rough time for giving an attitude to law enforcement.

We can resolve this matter easily enough.

Go go the nearest large airport and give the finger to security. Let us know what happens.

They're probably laughing at the dumbass American to be honest. I'm pretty sure the American passengers that were held up for up to 9 hours because of his little stunt are equally amused.
