I'm looking at picking up an upconverting / upscaling DVD player and have narrowed my choices down to these two:

Sony DVP-NS700H

Samsung DVD-F1080

With the Sony DVD player, the Bravia Sync feature should work when hooked up to my TV (KDL-26M4000). Will the Samsung DVD player work with the Bravia Sync feature as well? I've read some threads where people mention that Samsung's AnyNet+ is compatible with Sony's Bravia Sync, but I haven't read anything definitive about this topic.

Has anyone actually tried a Samsung AnyNet+ equipped unit with a Sony Bravia Sync equipped unit? Did they work properly together?

I don't think they are compatible. That is why they are coming out with another HDMI specification which will make all devices compatible. If you want to be able to control everything with one remote you should just invest in a Harmony Remote.

Also, if you are going to spend $100 on a DVD player, why not spend a little more and get a Blu-ray player?

Are there any blu-ray players under $150 that can be updated whenever new blu-ray profiles are released?

There are no new profiles to worry about and profile 2.0 is worthless. BD Live just lets you connect to the internet and download movie trailers or subtitles for other languages or crap like that.

edit: Looks like you've missed out on all the deals. Prices have gone way up since Christmas.

I don't need a blu-ray on a 26" tv anyway. That's overkill. So is a Harmony remote when all I have is the tv, a dvd player and a Nintendo Wii.

In that case, you probably won't benefit from an upconverting DVD player. Just use whatever you have, or get a basic $30 player until you decide to upgrade.

Thanks, but I still just want someone who knows for sure (about the Bravia Sync / AnyNet+ issue) to chime in here.

This site says it's supposed to work, but from what I've read in the past people have had problems with mixing manufacturers.

Hi guys, quick post basing on my experience. Just connected Samsung HW-F450 Series 4 Soundbar Audio System to Sony Bravia KDL32W670A TV.

From what I see the HDMI CEC works OK between those two devices: I can control volume, mute and power on/off the soundbar using TV remote.

ARC works too (meaning soundbar HDMI OUT is connected to TV HDMI IN and there are no other cables involved).

PS ooops just realised how old this topic is, sorry for necro-post :)
