Well the Mets actually added the right players to match the ballpark they play in. Its well known that Shea Stadium is a pitchers park so they improved their defense...or so they hoped. They signed a great defensive centerfielder in Cameron and so far he is a total bust beyond comprehension. I go nuts when he screws up plays in the outfield... and today he almost killed Cliff Floyd. Don't get me started on his non-existent offense.. his at-bats are pretty much automatic strikeouts and its going on at an alarming rate.
Matsui has shown a nice bat and some good speed, but because of his problems in the field there is already talk of moving him to second base once Jose Reyes returns... if he ever does anyways.
So yea.. their fielding has been a bit poor and has let the fine starting pitching down. Glavine should probably have 8 wins by now. Trachsel should have more as well. The Mets of 2004 are MUCH better than the embarrassing teams of 2002 and 2003, but the Phillies look rock solid and the Marlins have excellent pitching.. in fact.. the Marlins will probably complete the sweep tomorrow against the Mets, which drives me nuts. I think the Mets will also have a record all their own ..the "Futility with the bases loaded" record. They can't buy a damn hit with the bases loaded!! ARRRGGHHH!!!
The Braves and Mets will probably fight it out for third place throughout the season. Both teams are just are not consistant enough to get past the Phils and Marlins.
...now.. as for the Mets spending money.. they spent it in all the right places this season, but there seems to be some poison in the detergent they use to wash the uniforms as many great players who put on the Mets uniform for some reason or another turn to crap. I don't get it... :disgust:
