It looks like canned cat food, I can't eat meat that's that color, I have no idea what it tastes like. But if it tastes anything like it looks, ughs.

20 years ago I would have thought braunschweiger, liverwurst, headcheese, pâté, and anything else involving liver alone or along with other unknown meats or offal absolutely disgusting. Now I love that kind of stuff.

That is some good food. Put it on a small slice of rye bread with some raw onion. Yum.
I'd eat it more often but it is so unhealthy.

I have always considered it another name for liverwurst. Is there a difference?

I will, very, very rarely, have a liverwurst sandwich. It's really quite tasty, but its not too good for you.

It's an aquired taste. I like it, but I was brought up on eating liver.

Braunschweiger is typically smoked, liverwurst is not. The best examples are the ones with low fat content. The fat from liver is typically bitter, so if you get an overwhelming "copper" taste, there's probably too much fat in it. You can deduce the fat levels by slicing it cold- if it cuts easily, it's mostly meat. If it's difficult, there's too much fat.

Love that stuff, my dad used to buy it. Pretty common in Germany, although I don't think they call it that, I can't remember the right word for it. I can completely see why people would think it's gross, but on some fresh baked bread, it's great.

I think there's a variant called "lebar"...is that what you're thinking of?

Braunschweiger and Avocado... The worlds best two "super" foods. To me I like them both, but one can seriously just go the rest of their life eating only those two things and basically cover all the nutritional needs a human body requires.
