Hey all,

I just went down to Ace Hardware and picked up some brasso!.. I have heard some good things about it, and that it could fix "scratched" cds...

Well the Cd i am trying to correct is my Unreal Toury one...

Came someone give me some inside info on how to use this stuff, i applied a dime size, and BUFFEDDDDDDDD.... and it looked like it corrected some of the scratches....

But there is just this one, where i CANNOT get it out, after about 10 times tryin to install this game, on 2 different drives... Gets stuck on the same damn file. :p

Any help or tips would be nice,

TIA...

P.S.

Any success stories with this stuff?

i've never used brasso... have used toothpaste though, with some success on small scratches.

some scratches are just to deep to buff out.

just put some on, buff it around the cd in a circle moving outwards.. and then rinse it off.. if you cant buff it out after a minute or so... its probably not going to come out.

It sounds like you are using too much Brasso - you only need a couple of drops. That said, you should be able to get out any scratch that does not actually penetrate the metal using Brasso. Just apply it and rub gently - it is CRITICAL that you rub perpendicular to the laser path (i.e., toward and away from the center hole) and never parallel to the playing surface. You should not need to press hard; just gently rub until the scratch is gone.

EDIT: No offense to Rallispec, but his advice is totally off-base. Toothpaste is way too abrasive, and rubbing around the CD is likely to just trash the disc. Scratches that are parallel to the playing path, whether they are created accidentally or deliberately with toothpaste, will confuse the player by defracting the laser.

no offense taken. :)
could be why i've only been able to use my method with some success. It definetly has worked on some CD's though.. i've restored many music cd's that wouldnt play to be able to play again.
