Brass standoffs..... Are they necessary?

Was putting together a system last night, opened the case hardware and this time it didn't come with the brass standoffs. I screwed the motherboard onto the slideout mobo tray. the tray was raised where it screwed in. No problems.

Got me wondering how important are the brass standoffs anyway? And why brass, is it less conductive?

If you didn't have the mobo tray with rasied areas to support the motherboard, then you would need some sort of standoff. Brass standoffs will typically ship with the case.
