it's a white trash Vegas. I think they have a small amusement/water park, but it's nothing too exciting.

I used to go all the time as a kid.

I don't think it's a "white trash Vegas" as Mikey says. I remember Silver Dollar City being a nice park, and a lot of the shows in the area are comparable to many of your Vegas shows. We used to stay in Eureka Springs and just drive up to Branson.

Its ok. Silver Dollar City is fun for a day, but anything more than that is pushing it. The rest of the attractions/shows suck unless you're 60+

It's not that bad. Silver Dollar City has improved it's rides over the last 5-10 years, but it's as much about the food for me. Granted, it is tailored more toward the older crowd, there's plenty to do for anyone with an attention span over 8 hours.

I've been there; it's fun but more like family-oriented fun than strippers and gambling crap.

We saw a sweet a Capella (sp? voices only) group, six brothers. One guy was the beatbox and one did bass. It was pretty sweet. :)

Why do people reply when they don't even have any experience with something?
(And no, "I heard..." or "I think..." or "I looked it up on the internet..." or "I drove by..." is not experience.)

I was there for 4 days last summer. We drove past the park several times, I looked it up on the internet. It had a few rides, but is by no means on par with Cedar Fair parks, and certainly far far far from a major theme park.

Why do people reply when they don't know anything about a person's knowledge?

And I wouldn't consider Silver Dollar City an amusement park in the sense that a Cedar Fair park/Six Flags/Disney is considered an amusement park. The amusement park is called Celebration City.

So you didn't actually go into the park? Why did you go to Branson?
Silver Dollar City is a "theme park" not an "amusement park".
It's not too bad, lots of arts and crafts and there are seasonal times with different themes.
The food is great, lots of different choices, most of them good.
They have a cave tour, which most people participate in to get out of the heat. :)
The rides aren't spectacular, but fun.
I never went to the shows, etc outside the park, they are geared mostly for older people.
White Water is a pretty average waterpark, great for kids or if you enjoy that type of thing.
There's another water park, but I didn't go there.
There's a great Go-Kart place (don't remember the name) that has wooden tracks and is more fun than your average go-karts because it's not a flat track. They had more stuff there, but we just rode the go-karts.

Was the group called "Six"? I was there last year and we saw them, probably one of my favorite shows while I was there. Had a very young sense of humor, kinda rare in Branson.

Branson is suited more towards the older crowd, but I'm 26 and enjoyed it. It all depends on the shows you see and what you do while you're there. I think we saw Dolly Pardon's Dixie Land, The Twelve Irish Tenors, some Chinese Acrobats, Six, some huge mormon family, and did a couple IMAX movies and the Bodies Exhibit. Overall it was a very fun time and pretty reasonable compared to Vegas.

Branson is where you go if the black velvet Elvis paintings in your trailer are no longer tacky enough to satisfy you.

We used to call it Steal your Dollar City. Back in the day it was a wide spot in a narrow road and had some charm. Now it is over commercialized, too bad.

I went there as a kid~6th grade, all I remember is going to silver dollar city, and the only thing about that I remember is going into a cave below the park. The cave was fun.

My grandparents go there every year. They took me once, and it was the last time I went.

My dad says Branson, Missouri is like Las Vegas if Ned Flanders was in charge.

There used to be a park called Silver Dollar City in Gatlinburg, TN..... Dolly Parton bought it and rebranded it as Dollywood. (I remember because I went there when it was SDC when I was like 3 or 4)

Looking at Silver Dollar City's website, some of the same rides are there that were at the other one. Fire-in-the-Hole looks like the Blazing Fury. (both indoor roller coasters with a fire theme) Both have flooded mine rides, etc...

I'd say you'll be disappointed in either park if you expect to get a Six Flags experience, but you'll probably not have to wait as long in line or walk as far. If you're going for a weekend trip, Branson might be fun....of course, you might be disappointed and end up getting stuck paying too much money to see the tourist traps. It just depends on what you want to get out of it.

As for the shows, you might be able to find something worthwhile.... Yakov Smirnoff has been performing there since the early 90's. :p
