My friend just got a brand new system: KR7A, 1900+ Athlon XP, 512 MB Crucial DDR, SoundBlaster Audigy, NetGear NIC.

I took out all the cards except the VGA and RAM. The green light comes on when the power is on, and the orange light (power) is always on. But when we power up the system, there are no beeps, and nothing on the screen. I checked the CPU in my comp and it works fine, as do all his other components. I guess its obviously something with the mobo, but I have no more ideas what to try. I've cleared the CMOS like 5 times, tried different video cards I know work, different RAM stick... I'm out of ideas. Can anyone here please offer any suggestions you may have? Thanks.

The CPU is fine. It has an Alpha PAL 8045 with an 80mm Delta 80CFM fan on it. I checked the processor in my box as well and it works fine...

Sounds like a motherboard problem to me. RMA that badboy and see what a fresh one will do for ya.

Did you disconnect all the drives too?

What power supply are you using?

The orange light is usually hdd activity.........

Only things hooked up are:
CPU, memory, VGA, RAM, and power.

And there is an orange light on the mobo that shows its powered. Its always on if the board is plugged in. There is a green light that turns on when I turn it on... I guess that means it thinks its working fine. There is also a little red light, but its never come on except to blink when the machine first powers up...

I tried another PSU, too.. and I know the other one works.

You can take the mb out of the case (could be grounding out on something) and lay it on a piece of cardboard or styrofoam and try it again with just the essentials......

Make sure the slide voltage switch on the psu is set at 115V..... not 230V (don't laugh, it happened to me!)
Never mind......... you said you tried another one ........(duh!)

If still no luck, carefully re-seat the ram (one stick only) ........ and the video card and try again........

Remove the cmos battery and replace with a new one.....

Double check all jumpers/switches ...............
