I have a Crucial MX100 I purchased a week ago. It is my only system drive with windows 7, and today after moving around some components in my case, it wouldn't boot anymore.

It was working fine until I had to disconnect my SATA cable to reroute it. I tried to swap cables, and ports with no result. I can see the drive in the BIOS (AHCI), and after loading windows on another SSD, I can access the content of the Crucial drive.

Is this a common occurrence and a sign that my drive may be defective? Is there a quick fix to it?

If you took out a HD/SSD then the boot loader could have been on that other drive.
If that is the case, then either put back the HD/SSD, or fix the boot loader.
I suppose the easiest way to fix this is to boot up windows setup (off a DVD / USB flash drive), then select repair, and see if it can fix it for you.

Most motherboards come with "quick boot" functionality.
Find out which key you have to press in order to get into the quick boot menu list! This will display all your storage devices. Try two boot methods! Try to boot from the Crucial in legacy and then in uefi mode. Check which one works and then make the proper adjustments in BIOS!

If your motherboard supports uefi boot and your OS was installed in UEFI BOOT MODE and BIOS attempts to boot from that drive in legacy mode, your OS will never start.
