dear all,

just when i thought i was out...they pulled me back in :)
I assembled the following pc a month ago:
- E6320
- 4 gig (4X1) kingston hyper 800 mhz 4-4-4-12
- 2 deskstars 320 gig
- geforce 8800 320 gts
- ...

Now i recieved a coupon of the store worth of 120 usd (euro, in Belgium :)).
Should i sell my e6320 (which overclocks rather difficult due to the 4X1 gig) and buy another cpu. Which one should i go for since i don't want to spend muchmyself (besides the coupon) and the sale of te 6320.

thanks
b

4x1 GB shouldn't be hurting your overclock that much. You will just need to raise your timings to 5-5-5-15, and/or give your NB voltage a .1v bump. And whether or not it's worth it to you, monetarily, to upgrade your cpu, I have no idea.;)

If you can get a e6850 for 'free' then I would buy one :) Perhaps a qaud, but that's up to you. If your e6320 is allready running at 2.6-3ghz you could consider upgrading the videocard or something like that. In Holland the e6850 costs 2245 euro's or so. For 120 euro's more you could replace your 8800gts 320mb for a x2900xt or perhaps a 8800gts 640mb, I'd prefer the x2900xt though.

Hi, thanks for the replies so far.
- I will try the memory adjustments although i get a voltage check fail (even with 5-5-5-5 setting) from the moment i start o'cing so i guess i will have to enter the memry voltage manually.
- Free is indeed the word if i can sell the e6320 and inn the coupon. The upgrade of the cpu idea originates from my idea that the e6320 is still worth some cash nowerdays.

Dear Myocardia,

Thanks for the reply on my topic concerning the cpu ugrade and the tip of increasing the voltige with 0.1 v and reducing the timings. Everything runs stable now but I was wondering if the voltage increase of 0.1v is dangerous for a pc that i'm also using for my work,
thanks

I say sell 6420 and use the coupon and add a touch more to get a Q6600!! That's a cool upgrade. If you can get a G0 even better shave off some heat. but if going to get Q6600 you do need a bit more juice from your PSU.

btw, My cuz is also in Belgium, I visited him a few years back, I do very much love Brussles except I couldn't speak any local language there and had to get escorted everywhere :]

No, increasing your northbridge voltage by .1v over stock voltage isn't dangerous at all. It might make your motherboard only last 6 years, instead of 7, but most likely not. If it were that dangerous to increase voltages, they wouldn't give you that option.;)

Hello Nyker,
thanks for the support towards Belgium. I am getting a bit curious what you understand with 'escorted' :)

Hi Myocardia,
In the P35C BIOS there is a category 'system voltage control' and one of the topics is DDR2/DDR3 OverVoltage. In stead of voltage : Normal I increased it with 0.1 v because otherwise the ddr voltage under system health shows 'failed'. With the 0.1 increase that 'problem' is solved.

Sometimes ram needs a little more voltage then the mobo gives it at default. But you increased it allready, so yeah, problem solved :p Usually ram can take up to 0.2 or 0.3 extra volts over the stock vram, so no worries about ram dieing.

What is system health though? If you are not experiencing any instability with your rig, there's no real need to increase voltages. Should run orthos blend, and see if it fails, if it doesn't, then you could try lowering the vram again, and run orthos blend again, and if it still doesn't fail, it means it's fine.
