Brand new Nexus won't turn on.

I got my brand new Nexus in the mail just now. Put the battery in, plugged it into the usb to charge, and.... nothing.

No charging LED.
Power button doesn't do anything.
I'm using a known good cable.
I had it sit for maybe ten minutes "charging" and returned back to it.

Still nothing.

Uhhhh... wtf?

If it's brand new, return it/exchange it. What's hard about that?

Galaxy Nexus? Just leave it plugged in for a while. Use a known good charger on the off chance that that's the problem. And take steps needed for exchange.

I had this same problem, and call their support line.

The fix (which worked):

Take a cloth (I used the shirt I was wearing), and wipe the connections on both the battery and the battery contacts on the phone. Don't need to scrub, just wipe.

The guy from Google said the remains of their cleaner sometimes prevents the battery contacts from make a connection.

It worked. The contacts looked fine. No residue. Wiped them anyway and it works.

I would have suggested holding the button for more than half a second, but long as it worked for you.

Mine did that too when I first got it, the one from Google that is, the one from Verizon worked fine the first time.

Kinda freaked me out when I put the battery in, plugged it in, and held the button down for 10 seconds and nothing happened.

Mine has started doing that lately. Had me pretty worried that something might be wrong with it. How often is it supposed to happen?
