STI Mobile is handling the rebate (any good?).
This is an older b&w phone, with so-so reviews.
Minutes might expire in 365 days?

12c/min days, 10c/min nights
"No monthly access fee applies. Nights start at 9pm and end at 6:59am. Weekends are all day Saturday & Sunday. Nationwide long distance."
"if you do not use your phone for 60 consecutive days, your account will be deactivated and your phone number and voicemail account will be lost."
"Is there an activation fee?
Yes, there is a $4.95 activation fee for each activation."

http://www.stimobile.com has the rebate form.
http://www.stimobile.com/PDF/2005%20LG1200%20Rebate%20Form.pdf
- Phone must be active for 30 consecutive days from the date of original activation to qualify for a rebate. - Limit 2 rebates per household / address. - Submissions postmarked more than 14 days after date of purchase will not be accepted.

Bought one. Had a problem. Cheapphonecards customer service was exceptionally good and fast. Sprint PCS coverage is very good in my area. I'm very happy with the phone and the deal (and will be happier when the rebate arrives).

So this is a free phone with minutes with no contract? So I get a phone with $5 of minutes for the cost of shipping and no commitments? Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone tried this yet?

I sent an email to their customer service saying:
I saw this deal on your website and am very interested in it. However, it seems too good to be true. My understanding of the deal is that I buy a phone from you with a $10 airtime card. I spend $5 of that card on an activation fee, leaving me with $5 of airtime. I get a $79 rebate from STI Mobile. Is that correct? I can get a free phone with $5 airtime for $5 shipipng and no commitments or contracts? Please let me know. Thanks.
their response:
You are right on all. We cannot keep them in stock and the price will
probably go up by Saturday. The deal is a real as possible, but temporary.

Russ

I also sent an email to STI Mobile (who the rebate and service is through), and if they confirm that this is legitimate, I'll order it.

25% discount available, read 1st post of this thread. This brings the deal to $64.25 shipped before the $79 rebate (get paid if the rebate arrives!).

A version of the deal is also on the STImobile homepage. Their version also requires buying a $50 card, so go with cheapphonecards if you do the deal.

I'm still thinking about this deal, for a gift. I got myself the $20 AR Nokia 3595 Tmobile @ $taples couple weeks back. The $80 STImobile rebate is a bit scary. The phone sells used for maybe $25 or $30 on ebay. Great price for a light use no frills phone if it all works out.

I don't think I'll use this phone much, so I don't want to buy a $50 card. I'm going to bookmark this Fatwallet thread in case the rebate doesn't come and I need to dispute it. Most of their suggestions are complaining to the BBB. I searched the BBB website and STI Mobile isn't listed. Will the BBB be able to do anything if the company isn't a BBB member?

I just ordered. The FW discount was only about $5 though. Still, I'm happy with a FAR flip phone with minutes that don't expire! Thanks OP!

Go to the site, log in, and go to Orders section.

Click your order number and the order detail shows status.

Mine says Completed and Shipped.

Yeah, mine does too but doesn't show any tracking information. I selected 'Fedex 2 Day' so I guess we'll see happens. They have not replied to 2 e-mails requesting the info yet...

They just called me and gave me a tracking number. They shipped via UPS rather than Fedex but we'll see how it goes....

Got my phone today and it's all set up with STi Mobile no problem there.

However, the external display is corrupted and doesn't show the caller ID number (the internal display is OK). Now I'm not sure how to handle the exchange given that I need to send in the warranty form. Anyone have any idea how to deal with this?

ClockerXP, I got mine today as well. I got second day air even though I paid for "online delivery" ($5). Guess you didn't need to pay extra for it. I haven't had a chance to open the box though.

I would certainly contact Russ at cheapphonecards and ask for a replacement for the defective phone they sent you. They say they work until you're satisfied. Bad phone is not satisfactory.

Since this phone is already activated, I think I might have a problem getting the rebate to go through if I exchange it. I will contact Russ in the AM though. Thanks for your feedback.

I wonder why you don't have to buy the $50 card at cheapphonecards.com to use the rebate but you do at stimobile.com?? Since you have to send in your receipt, I wonder if STI Mobile will honor this rebate when they see I didn't buy a $50 card? Guess I should have thought about that a bit more...

Regarding the rebate, the rebate form itself does not show a requirement for a $50 card purchase. I intend to send in the rebate printed from the cheapphonecards web site so their identification is printed at the bottom of the rebate form.

I am also concerned about this requirement. We may have to buy the $50 card later to qualify for the rebate.

Thanks GMY. I know I can exchange it but I'm thinking that will screw up the rebate since the rebate form has the phone ESN number on it....

I think the only way to buy the phone from STI Mobile directly is to buy it with the $50 card. It's the only way they sell it online. So this rebate is probably taking advantage of some loophole that STI Mobile didn't anticipate.

"SERVICE BY SPRINT PCS."

Not entirely. I called them earlier, gave them my zip code; no, it is not covered, even we are now using Sprint. You can look their map, quite strange, some highway are not covered; which STI's CSR also confirmed. Better check with them before you're on board.

Good catch! I just bought a $50 card last night anyway because the minutes never expire just to be on the safe side...It will take me probably 6-8 months to burn them off but no big deal...

Russ got back to me via e-mail and indicated they will get back to me regarding how I can swap my phone and still ensure the rebate goes through. I'll keep AT posted but so far I'm happy with the response I'm getting from cheapphonecards.com
