So I just purchased this computer.. I have had it for like 4 days, but 2 days i spent trying to figure out how to boot the system on my old HDD so i could install windows but i dont have a CD for windows i purchased it as a downloadable copy and i never burned it to a disk. So i had to buy a new DVD rom since i guess IDE is totally gone now lol.. And yada yada..

So i finally got it all installed and running, windows loaded on my SSD i was doing windows updates and installing drivers and so forth... I reboot the computer and boom endless BOOTLOOPS.. It doesnt even get the windows screen.. The screen stays black and reboots every 2 seconds and beeps.. I could however press DEL and get into the bios.. I tried switching to the backup bios.. no go.. reset the cmos, unplugged the power and removed the battery for a few hours.. no go.. Unplugged all my peripherals no go, removed a stick of ram tried diff ram slots.. Still nothing..

Spent like 10 hours trying to fix this.. I did google searches and found nothing... except a million other people between different genetations of the X intel chipsets with the same issue.. I finally started changing settings in the bios and when i changed the PCI-E from GEN 3 to GEN 2 now it works fine.. Boots up and im typing this out as we speak..

What the HECK ? I did a google search on this and others found the same fix as well on the x97 and x99 chipsets.. Changing the speed of the PCI-E one notch down fixes the bootloops.. What is the speed difference FPS wise in games between having my system on GEN2 vs GEN3 ?? And considering i am finding this issue to be widespread on all kinds of manufacterers with the x97 and x99 its almost leading me to believe this is an INTEL problem.. and if thats the case ill jump ship to AMD get myself a 9950FX and a new motherboard and never go back to intel... I know that sounds drastic but this is BS..

Im sure you guys have heared of the bootloop issues but have you ever seen my fix for it before and if so does anyone know of a way to get this system to be stable again on GEN3 so i dont have a performance loss in games...

My system is

4790k Devils canyon
16gb g.SKILL Ripjaws x CAS 9
Gigabyte z97 g1 sniper
Sapphire r9 290 tri x O/C
EVGA 750W G2 PSU
Silicon power SSD 240GB, WD Black 1TB, WD Blue 640gb Edit Post Reply Reply With Quote Thanks

Thanks for the help, but yes i know to tap it lol... Ive been building PC's since early 2000, The G.SKILL memory is the 2x8GB Ripjaw X series the 1600 CAS9 version. I tried changing the memory to 1333 and 800mhz, and lowering the cpu clock, increasing the voltages and nothing works except changing the PCI-E from GEN 3 to GEN 3 basically going from 16x to 8x

There seems to be only one revision of the g1 sniper z97(rev1.x), yet you should double check this. I would advise you to check your current BIOS revision and do a proper BIOS update to F7 if your bios revision is bellow F7. Of course, make sure that the system is in its most stable state when you update the BIOS!

I think that, yes, you've probably figured it out. The BIOS may be in trouble when identifying / starting up the dedicated GPU... It's easy to 100% verify this. Just uninstall the dgpu and switch to the onboard intel HD.
If the symptom is no longer present, it would be wise to update the BIOS first and then re-install the GPU.
GB motherboards are very easy to update in a non OS environment. You just drop the BIOS file on a fat32 USB drive and use GB's quick BIOS function available on POST.
and...always unplug the PC when messing up with the motherboard :)

I had an issue with post loops when I first installed windows 7 on my evga z87 ftw. It carried on to my evga z97 ftw and didn't go away until I installed windows 8.1 on my asus maximus hero vii. There was nothing wrong with the mbr as it would eventually finish loading windows. In my case it always reposted right after the windows logo would appear during the loading process. I had the same problem with both a mbr and uefi install of win 7 ult x64. It didn't matter if I deleted the partition, reformatted and started over it was always present until I moved to win 8.1 pro x64.

Any codes being shown on the screen when this happens? Also set your boot order to the dvd first then your hd so it will access the optical drive first and get to the installation media. Also set your optical drive to uefi, you will see two listings, and it will install windows in uefi mode which is the fastest mode. When the windows installation asks you delete the partition and reformat the drive creating a new partition and wiping out everything on your hd which is what you need to do.

I found out the problem.. I installed the new G7 bios because it supports my devils canyon 4790 and the G6 didn't, and that actually made things worse.. Now the computer wouldn't boot up with GEN 2 OR 1 on the PCI-E lane.. so after 12 hours messing with my new PC yesterday I gave up and went to bed at 4am.. Its now 3PM I just woke up and I was messing with the bios settings changing 1 at a time 1 to see if it would he lp.

Turns out turning OFF the intel graphics on the CPU fixed the problem its on the cpu right or is it built into the motherboard ? Anyway I turned it off and then my PC booted up with GEN 1 then I tried GEN2 and it worked, and now im typing to you on GEN 3 and it works just fine..

Seems their was a big conflict between the integrated graphics on the cpu and the dedicated

Currently, the Intel graphics feature is included within the CPU itself. Older (socket 775 & earlier boards from 6 or 7 years ago) used separate Intel GPU chips soldered onto the motherboard.
