Hi, I've recently purchased an Acer Aspire E5 Laptop. It came with a free Windows 10 upgrade so I immediately did that, as I've had good experiences with the OS on my other machines. Unfortunately I didn't check the boot time with 8.1, so I have nothing to compare this to, but the boot time with Windows 10 (with all the upgrades, AND the startup programs disabled, as well as background apps and bloatware removed) the boot time is 2 minutes. This is ridiculous, as I have an old Dell laptop with Windows 10 and the boot time is 20 seconds. I have no idea what's wrong.
Silly me used defragger on the computer in an attempt to help but all I managed to do was delete Windows.old, so now I can't even go back to 8.1 to see if Windows 10 was the problem. Stupid me.
Is there anything I can do to fix this? Restoring the computer to factory state seems to bring it all the way back to Windows 7 despite this computer shipping to me with Windows 8.1..... additionally I bought this from Newegg and it's open now, so I'd have to pay the restocking fee to return this unit, which I really don't want to have to do.
What happens when I start up: 20 seconds of the Acer logo and loading spin-circle, then 30-40 seconds of black screen, then another 20 seconds of the Windows 10 "Please wait" screen. After that, I log in, and have to wait another 15 seconds for the log in screen to let me in to the desktop.
This computer has an i7 and a nvidia card so I'm kind of mad I have to sit through this! The hard drive seems to be a Toshiba, though, is that the issue?
