mobo = asus a7n8x-x
cpu = socket A sempron 2200+
mem = 512 corsair value select
hd=80gig seagate pata

after installing the initial phase of winxp, the HD will not boot after the restart. gives "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" error.

the boot order for the asus/sempron is floppy/cdrom/hd, i boot from cd to install the winxp. upon restarti take the cd out and it will not boot from hd

please help.

i'm trying to zero-fill the hardrive to see if that helps.

zero filling worked. xp installed and boot up fine. now the problem is the mobo won't recognize the sempron 2200+ and sees it as a 900mhz athlong xp. i updated the asus bio to 1010-x which shows to be the latest on asus' website. please help.

everything is left on 'auto'. what jumper do i need to set on the mobo for it to see the chip as a sempron?

well, i changed the FSB setting to 166 and it booted up as a sempron 2200 at 1.5ghz. then i got excited and turned it up to 200 fsb and now its running as 1.8ghz at stock voltage. seems stable so far, running prime95 and and cpu is around 41*. this is the wife's computer so i don't plan to overclock it much, aiming more for stability. i might switch back to 166 depending on the temp. my wife will only be doing internet and wordprocess and and email so the extra 300mhz probably won't be noticable anyways
