Hi everyone, I've been reading the boards for quite sometime but never had a problem that wasnt solved without reading. Until now...
When in the windows XP install window, I press F6, to bring up the menu to be able to install other drivers before Windows XP installs. It asks for Manufactures Disk. I was told by the person who made my computer that I need to use the Via make disk, on my Asus Motherboard CD. Which I did.
When I press a button, Windows says Please wait for about 4 seconds then gives me the message:

"File txtsetup.oem caused and unexpected error (1024) at line 1742 in "d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c."

Then I press a button and it asks for the disk again.

Im SOOOOOO lost, I just want my damn new computer to work.

Please I hope someone can help me.
Thank you.

Get a PATA drive and your problem will just go away :) That an option for you? If not, then in a nutshell, you should

1) switch the Promise SATA controller to IDE mode in the BIOS, not RAID mode.

2) use the 378ATA Makedisk.exe to make IDE-mode drivers for the Promise.

3) put the SATA drive on the SATA_RAID1 plug on the mobo.

4) do the Windows Setup F6 thing again with this IDE-mode Promise driver floppy and not the VIA one, and not the RAID-mode Promise driver floppy.

Good luck and welcome to the Forums :) If you're setting up WinXP, I offer these precautions to help get it secure both in its vulnerable just-built state, and on an ongoing basis.

Hi again.
I did everything you said. And double checked everything as well, because I didnt want to message back unless I had checked a couple of times.
Im still getting the exact same message. Same to every letter.
Im so lost, no one else seems to be getting this unexpected message either.

I dont know what to do!

I have the same board. I am using a single SATA drive on #1 on the VIA chipset.

Did you try making another raid disk? Perhaps that one was corrupt...? It went very smooth for me...good luck

are you using 2 drives in raid? If not then you do not have to do the f6 install thing. If you are using 2 drives try the promise raid connecters. They might come up as something other the drive C: but It doesn't matter XP will install on any partition you tell it to. Also are you using the 6 boot floppys for your install or a bootable cd?

A single SATA drive on the Via controller required loading of Via drivers using F6 during windows install

Im useing a single SATA drive.
And I even went online and downloaded the makedisk drivers from ASUS themselves.
I've made like 5 different Disks, nothing works. I am useing the Windows XP CD to boot.
Maybe I should try a boot from the Disks....

Let me try that, otherwise I have no idea why it wont work.
I always get the same message everytime. no matter which im trying.

Check to see if you have BIOS version 1007 or later. If you have 1006 flash it to 1008. I had similar problems with an A8V and this step helped. You're not alone. I battled my A8V for days before I finally got everything to work. To say the least they can be a bit quirky. Best of luck.

The latest bios is always a good idea.

I got mine up and running without too much hassle. Try hooking the SATA drive to port 1 (this is the VIA controller). Since I'm not using the Promise controller, I just disable it in bios. Are you seeing the drive detected in bios?

Are you using the VIA utility to make your disks? If you download the SATA driver package from Asus, after opening the .zip, it will be in VIARAID220d\VIARAID\DriverDisk\MakeDisk.exe.
