Brand new Acer laptop shutdown...for no reason

Svnla

Lifer
Relative bought a new Acer laptop with i3 CPU and Windows 7 Home Premium, nothing fancy but a decent computer.

Details and specs = http://www.officemax.com/technology/...ct-prod2850395

He used it for the last two months mostly surfing the net and lately, the laptop just shutdown for no reason, no warning, no beep, nothing, just shut down and back to the black screen that you have to chose "restart windows normally" or "safe mode". He got the laptop on a flat table so the heat vents of the laptop were not blocked.

What is the problem? Any suggestions, ideas? TIA everyone.

Start by running Windows Event Viewer as Administrator and see if there are any related clues. Also, run MSCONFIG and uncheck all but essential startup features. One of them could be the culprit. What did your relative install or do prior to the problem? Has he/she tried System Restore to a date when it was functioning properly? If it turns out to be a hardware problem. the warranty likely applies.
