Brand Names used as common product names

Ok, me and my friend (please don't correct my grammar) got in an argument that there aren't 25 products where a brand name is used interchangeably for a certain product. For example, somone asking for some Chapstick instead of lip balm. The criteria is that many people must use the brand name to refer to a product. Here are some examples I came up with. See if you can help me finish the list. Or reply if you disagree with one on the list.

Brand Name // Common Product

1. Band-Aids --- Medical Bandages

2. Q-Tips ------- Cotton Swabs

3. ChapStick ---- Lip Balm

4. Kleenex ------ Facial Tissue

5. Jello ---------- Gelatin

6. Xerox -------- Copy//Copy Machine

7. Velcro ------- What is the common name for Velcro? or isn't there one?

8. Post-it-Notes -- Sticky Paper notes

9. Nintendo ------- Video Games. (old people call all video games Nintendo)

10. See-do ------ Personal WaterCraft

11. Scotch Tape --- Clear adhevise tape

12. Reynolds Wrap --- Food Covering

13. Magic Marker ----- Colored Marker

14. Coke --------------- Pop // Soda

15. Rollerblades ------- inline skates

16. Dremel tool -------- rotary tool

17. LaserJet ------------ Laser Printer

18. Walkman ---------- portable tape player// radio

the xerox, kleenex, and nintendo ones are unfortunately true.

i agree, that most call PWC (personal watercrafts) "Sea-Doos"

is magic marker a brand name? If so, I feel bad for that company since I refer to colored markers as magic markers, yet I don't think I ever used one.

<--------- Crayola washables here 🙂

How about Michigan Wolverines for greatest football team ever. I hear that one a lot 😀

Lots of pharmaceutical products. Tylenol = acetaminophen, Motrin = Ibuprofen, Aleve = Sodium Naproxen.. Tons of other examples out there.

You can decide whether this one is right or wrong. But whenever I hear someone talk about non stick spray coatings for cooking, they say Pam. Even if it's the generic or Meijer brand coating.

Yup - Benadryl = any antihistamine.

Maybe this should just count as one, cuz the list could go on and on. No one is ever going to say that, "I gotta go run and take my erectile dysfunction pill right now." Then again, I don't too many people would say "I gotta go run and take my Viagra pill right now."

I KNOW that's true! 😀

Hmmmm......strange. Last time I checked the Buckeyes were the National Champs and IIRC I believe the we owned you last year.

Buckeyes - National Champs

😀

Is rubber band a brand name of elastic? I hear a lot of people say rubber band.
A lot of people call soda "coke". Which I think is attributed to "Coca Cola", but I'm not sure.
I'd also check out the origin of T-Shirt / Crew Socks.

I couldn't agree more!

GO BLUE! 😀😀😀

Hey Jumpr, you on campus yet? If so, have you read in the school paper what happened to Marlin Jackson? I know that he plead guilty to a misdeamanor of fighting, but never heard what his fine or punishment is, along with Lloyd Carr's comment on whether or not he would play this season. BTW, its my thread, so I am allowed to hijack it for a little bit.
