Comparing Alkaline vs Alkaline, are the brand name batteries like Duracell, Energizer actually better than the no-names such as your Safeway brand ones?

Buying some batteries last night, I opted for the no-names because a pack of 12 was about the same price as an energizer pack of 4. Worst case, I thought, was that I would be going through each of them quicker but I'd have three sets.

I don't know... I never really paid attention. It seems like on high-drain devices, it really doesn't matter... they never last long enough.

Yes.

Candlepowerforums is down for maintenance right now, but when it's back up I'll link you to a thread that'll show you graphs for all different batteries at different amperages... there are definitely good batteries and bad batteries.

Yeah.. cheapo panasonics from a dollar store seem to last much much shorter then duracells or energizer.

I think its funny in battery world that 'heavy duty' actually means less life.

Yes, the cheap ones are worse. However, what I would like to see is a comparison between buying 12 cheap batteries for the same price as 4 brand name batteries i.e. which is the better value? Sounds like a good case for MythBusters

If you want good, cheap batteries get Costco's Kirkland brand (AA only)

I watched a report get done on this very thing many years ago. It showed that the cheapo Osco brand batteries did as good or better then the name brands. I think it comes down to where you get them from and name on them. If the dollar store sells mega Kungfoo Alkaline 20 for $2 its a safe bets they are going to suck balls.

Your walmart, kmart, pharmacy sells a store brand for 75-50 cents less or much cheaper, chances are will perform just as good. They do have a reputation to uphold. People go to dollar stores with the understanding they will be getting fvcked in the ass without lube and half expect the stuff to suck, but need it in a pinch.

So where you buy cheap batteries, a name of cheap batteries, and cost is a huge give away your buying crap and not to expect much from them.
