hi all

here's a question for those who are in the U.S. military or those who are familiar with their protocols:

how can a person in a military branch transfer to another military branch? (i.e. someone in the army goes into the air force)

what are the requirements to be able to transfer, etc. etc.

thankya

*points to the nearest recruiter to answer the question*

*points to google*

*points to ask.com*

*points to any .mil site for phone numbers to call and ask*

But I thought a random off topic subforum of a tech site was the best place to ask any question?

You can usually transfer betwen services and keep you enlisted rank.

I know of very few officer (none) that have actually changed branches.

Many will be assigned to joint service operations and/or assignments
Example: USAF R&D working at Navy R&D facility.

Currentl the Military has a program going called Blue to Green.

They will give a huge bonus up to $10K, for a AirForce-Navy person to transfer to the US Army/Marines.

Never heard of anyone going from Green to Blue:confused:

I believe that would qualify as a Navy to Army transfer. Yes, it can be done. Yes, you should receive a bonus for it. Although I am a 20 year old kid with no military experience so my advice should be taken with a grain of salt.

It depends on what you want to transfer in to.

If, say, you wanted to switch from being...say...a machine-gunner in the Army to being a avionics tech for the AF, there of course would probably be a test of your abilities.

I know, I'm trying to switch from my current trade (Resource Management Support Clerk) to Artillery in the CF...it's taking a while, and they have to retest my eyes.

I went through OCS with a Army E-4 who had just seperated. It does happen; however this was well before the current situation.

we had some army guys in boot camp when i joined the navy

enlisted generally have to go through the boot camp of the new branch, which would be a big deterant for most people

i think they got to start one paygrade below what they were in the army, so if they were and E-5 in the army, they were E-4 in the navy to start out after boot camp

for enlisted, i don't really see a good reason to do this.
officers, might be a different situation
