Brake Squeel on motorcycle

Started to notice some brake squeel from the front brakes on my bike.

Not so much under hard braking, mostly when coming to a slow stop (like when coming to a stop at lights).

Anyone know what the cause is? Am thinking its time to change the pads.

Hard stops can clear up brake noise. Practice some "panic stops", but be careful not to lock the wheels up. You can also take an emery cloth and scruff the rotor surface to break up glazing without harming anything.

Well, some "brake drag" is normal. The pads rest on the rotors, so when moving at slow speeds they may brush a bit, producing a small squeal. At higher speeds, the rotors spin fast enough to push the pads farther off.

On my pads, there is a wear indicator groove. Once this groove disappears, it's time for new ones. You should check the wear indicator on your brake pads.

The squeal may also be the result of dirty pistons on the caliper having trouble retracting properly. You could try cleaning them.

My bike does this as well. I notice it mostly happens when I haven't ridden it for a while. When I ride it regularly the problem seems to go away. I assume its rust or something forming on the surface of the rotors.
