Is there any reason why brakes would still squeal after the brake pads have been replaced new? Brake rotors maybe?

brake pags are made with peanut shells. They will always squeak. Some cars seem to have more problems than others. Just spray the rotors with cleaner (or take it back to the shop that did the work) and it will probably go away.

Squeal under light braking is completely normal. Unless you are getting squeal under moderate to heavy braking you have nothing to worry about. Also, if the squealing is accompanied by pulling or a pulsing of the pedal while stopping (not an ABS pulse, a warped rotor pulse) there are problems.

i think it can also be related to brake dust buildup

or like said above just the breaks being broken in

Thanks for your replies. Now I must tell you that my front pads/rotors were replaced, but the rears haven't. The squeal comes from slow-speed breaking, which you said was normal... The mechanic said the rears needed replacing within a few weeks... I guess he wasn't BS'ing eh? At almost $300 per set (front or rear), I didn't want to do both at once.
