Brake pads + 04 Expedition = black wheels!

We wash this black b!tch about once a week, but within 2 days the wheels are black again. It has 20k miles on it now and, frankly, I've never seen anything like this. I started paying attention to other Ex's on the road and heve noticed most of them look like this. Anyone know what's up with this? Do they eat brakes?

I'd take the dust over brake squeal and/or premature wear on the rotors. I learned 25 years ago that wheels/rims = high-maintenance... fvck that!

If you want less brake dust then got to Autozone and get a set of Morse Ceramic pads. Ceramic pads are supposed to be harder on the rotors.

Now they are not a high performance set of pads if you want performance then get some carbon metallics.

If you want to keep a little performance and reduce the brake dust a LITTLE. Then go to autozone and ask to see a set of Duralast gold pads. If they have little pieces of copper/gold color in them then they are a semi ceramic / metallic mix. But if they are juts a silver metallic color then they are juts a high end metallic pad.

I would not use those. They keep brake dust from leaking out, but also keep air from running over the brake system. So you are more likely to have brake fade and warped rotors.

Get used to it. Expeditions are, and always have been a b!tch on brakes. They might have gotten better since our '98 was made, but apparently not much Marlin's suggestion is probably your best bet.

If the rotors are easy to change out, get the ceramics and don't worry about it. I change rotors quite often if they are easy to do. Some folks will turn them, but when the new one is under 50$, why bother? I've had them turned and have the pulse or warp come back really quick.
EDIT:
New rotors are 57.99 at autozone. If the ceramics run cleaner, I would not hesitiate.

You need ceramic break pads. They don't cover the wheel with brake pad residue like metalic ones. I had the same problem on a vehicle of mine and problem was resolved by switching to ceramic pads.

2. Dont use ceramic or any others that reduce performance/ stopping power
3. Do a search for Dustless Brake Pads - Hawk makes some good ones - dont know if they make for Expedition - or search for
4. Any heavy vehicle will have brake dust - so far they havent perfected the science - and its not only ford - look at X5s / 911s ...

Dandruff, tell me why Ceramic pads reduce breaking power? They aren't dustless, the dust is just a lighter color/less noticable. That's definately what I would try. Real ceramic pads, none of that cheap sh!t.

I switched to ceramic a year and a half ago. They don't reduce breaking power. At least they didn't for me when I put them on.
