Brake light on in dash !

Started a week or so ago and wont turn off no matter what I do. Cant drive around cause that damn chiming noise wont stop and it would make me want to drive off of a cliff. Drove it around for a bit and the chiming would stop and the light would turn off when I was at a stop light but once I started going it came on again. Havent checked the brake fluid yet but will do so right away. The braking seems fine but when Im at a light and it turns green if I push the gas too hard or fast it seems to be a little bit stuck as if the brakes are being released slowly and then it goes away. Before this light came on sometimes when I would release the brake it would do the same thing so I guess the likely thing would be low fluid. It felt like a shudder in the pedals as if it wasnt fully released yet from the rotor. BTW where would the master cylinder be located?

Master cylinder is under the hood. Usually a white plastic container with a black screw on lid.

What kind of car?

1993 Pontiac Bonneville 3.8 V6 170HP 225 torque oh yeah! lol
Ya I was told elsewhere that it was just low brake fluid but this would mean that there was a leak somewhere right? Where should I check other than the master cylinder?

arent e-brakes all mechanical? (no brake fluid, no use of master cylinder) you still may have a regular brake problem tho.

my old 98 accord had this problem (with the ebrake light). luckily there were no chimes, just a light so i didnt care. did scare me sometimes though when id panic if i forgot to take the ebrake off...

Yeah but I talk on a forum where these people all own the same car and it seems as though this light also comes on when there is low fluid. All the light says is BRAKE it doesnt say EBRAKE.

oh, it says e-brake in the title. might want to change that. i would say definitely check on the brake fluid then.

There is a switch or something by the brake lever that lights up the indicator on your dash when the lever is pulled. Make sure this is functioning properly. My e-brake light came on before when the brake cable was loose. Accelerating quickly or hitting bumps would cause the lever to move around triggering the indicator light. Tightening the cable and removing the extra play fixed the problem.

Ya Ive been suggested to do that as well. I will try this stuff out as soon as my dad gets home from work. Hes using the car now since I dont work anymore but its still pretty much mine whenever I want it.

ebrake? Oh, you mean the "make your car smell funny lever"?
Heh after a while, it doesn't smell no more. 😉 When we rented a car down in Hawaii... I left the ebrake engaged and drove at least 2 blocks with it. I didn't even feel any friction or anything. I guess other tourists also mistreated the car before me. 😉

Cool, I didn't know there were other Bonneville drivers on this forum. 😛

<---Just bought a 1994 Bonneville SSEi a few weeks ago to replace my 1992 SE that was totalled.

Ain't necessarily so that there is a leak. Wearing of disc pads results in the caliper closing a bit. This increases the volume of the hydraulic systems, the fluid of which is supplied by the resevoir in the master cylinder.

Top 'er off...to the fill line.

Ahh yes the supercharged 3.8. I want to buy another one sometime soon but an SSEi like yours. Mine is just an SE so no supercharger for me but it sounds like a V8 with my CAI.

Brake fluid is low so gonna buy some tomorrow and that should fix her right up. Master cylinder is slightly wet as if there is a very slow leak or may a sudden gush of fluids at once but all seems fine.
