Road rage turns fatal for Joliet man

Wood was driving a red Chevrolet S-10 pickup behind a maroon Jeep driven by Donahue. One witness told police Donahue slammed on his brakes because Wood was following too closely.

“Both appeared to get…road rage that lead to Wood cutting off Donahue north of Caton Farm Road, forcing him to stop in the inside lane,” Trafton said.

Wood reportedly got out and struck the Jeep with his hands and feet, before Donahue got out and the verbal argument turned into a fist fight that put both men into oncoming traffic.

“Because of the way the vehicles were stopped and their headlights were on, the driver of a northbound silver Nissan was unable to see either of them and struck them,” Trafton said.

Both men were taken to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center where Donahue was pronounced dead at 11:41 p.m. Wood suffered “severe injuries to his legs and pelvis” and will be hospitalized for several days, but is expected to survive, according to reports.

I have no sympathy for either one. If you like to use your vehicle as a weapon and resort to fisticuffs in traffic then this world is better off without you.

I saw a guy get out of his truck on US75, and chase a Cadillac SUV, stopping to throw a rock at it, as the SUV driver went around on the shoulder and weaved in and out of traffic. Don't know what started that issue, there appeared to be no damage to the vehicles, so I assume there was tailgating and probably a bird-flipped or something.

I don't really understand road rage..

Hopefully Wood gets charged with something like reckless endangerment leading to the death of a human. This did not have to happen.:\

if you use the term 'fisticuffs' while attempting to be serious, i'd say the same thing.

typical old man douche who won't get out of the way for someone driving faster, and he decides to be a dick and brake check.

the fist fighting over road rage is fine..except the part where they fight in the street. should have taken it out of the road.
i brake check..and i'll fight over it too if i'm doing the speed limit or more and some dick rides my ass, yeah thats a good time to make sure my brakes are working properly.

Try leaving sooner if your in a hurry.

25 year old dumbass cuts off an old man in traffic, slams on his brakes and then jumps out and starts beating on the old man's car.

Old man 1, dead dumbass 0.

The worst of it is the guy driving the Nissan. Poor guy kills one guy and injures another. Even though it isn't his fault, still a pretty awful thing to live through/with; not to mention totaling his car.

road rage is so not worth it... the idiot doing the aggressive driving will have forgotten you about 2 seconds after he passes. Just let them go.
