Brainstorming software? (UML?)

These are possibly completely unrelated. I saw something in some magazine in the past month about a program that basically was super-intuitive/required minimal thought to use.. you would type your thoughts out and I guess do some special keystrokes or something to branch off, back up, etc. It was basically to stream your thoughts out without taking a lot of organizational effort. I seem to recall it being something about UML.. I'm really not sure on that though. Anyone know of anything like this?

I guess I'm just looking for a digital notepad. Nothing that I know of at the moment beats pen and paper for brainstorming, but that requires the whole process of going in and typing everything up, bleh.
