Person X restarts his computer. This computer is using windows 98 second edition. Upon restarting, person X's cable modem connection is no longer working. His network card is still functioning, and upon calling the cable company's tech support, he is pinged successfully by them, and manages to ping computers on the internet (www.yahoo.com) successfully.

However, none of his programs can access the internet (IE, AIM, etc).

What is the problem?

The winner gets relief from knowing I didn't have to go on the subway to get to my friend's house while trying to walk with a possibly-broken foot.

1) re-run through the internet connection wizard in IE

2) like said above, reset cable modem

3) remove and then re-add tcp/ip

if all else fails, remove and re-install ethernet adapter

tried the power thing, no luck. Everything else would be too difficult for me to explain over the phone tonight, thanks for trying.
