Without any measuring implements and without removing any wine from the barrel, how can they easily determine who is correct?

1. Drill a hole in the middle. If wine comes out, it's over half full...if not, it's less than half full.
edit: Tilt the barrel 45 degrees. If the wine touches the lower edge of the top and the top edge of the bottom, then it's exactly half full.

2. Juggle the balls as he walks across.
