Braid for PC released

In case anyone else was waiting for this release, FYI, it happened two days ago. I just picked it up today on Steam and it plays great (Vista x64). It's also available on Greenhouse. It's going for $15 in either location. I've only played for maybe 30 minutes so far but I can already tell why it got such great reviews.

i played the dmo and wasn't that impressed. there are a few areas in the demo that i couldn't figure out how to get to and it seemed pretty important.

That's kind of the point of the game. It's a puzzle platformer where you have to figure out how to get to certain places using time rewinding that would otherwise be inaccessible. It's gotten great reviews, though I guess if you don't like the genre then it would be hard to like.

So you didn't like it because you couldn't figure out the puzzles?

Anyway, Braid is a great game with an amazing ending.

these were like the 1st few levels. all i could do was rewind, no other special abilities. i saw no way of getting to the places.

That is the point of braid, you will not get it initially but when it comes to you it will be all worth the pain and the anguish 😀. I have finished the game, so I can confirm it is not broken.

My first venture into the puzzle platform genre (excluding portal, but that's first person), and I'm loving it so far. I wish more games would use the hand-painted art style, it looks fantastic.

Rewinding (as well as pausing and fastfowarding) time is the only special ability you have throughout the entire game. The point is to use that power in creative ways to achieve your goal.

i understand that, but when there is a jump that is impossible, rewinding isn't going to do squat.

Try timing bounces on enemies, you can jump higher and across chasms in that manner. Also, pay careful attention to the paintings when they put the canvas in level...sometimes you can manipulate it and use pieces to your advantage...the hints end there 😉

its still to far to jump even if you bounce off an enemy. also, on the 1st level with the flying cloud platofrms, there is a puzzle piece right above the exit door but there is no possible way to reach it. there are no enemies on the ground to jump off of.

Dude, yeah, Braid is an exceptionally frustrating game if you let it be, but there is ALWAYS a way to go past something and to get a piece of the puzzle that seems impossible to reach.

I get you though, the first hour of playing, I was like, "What...what...wtf?" followed by a good round of expletives every 45-90 seconds.

The game is ingenious tho, and the more people tell you how to do it, the less you'll get out of it when you do.

Fixed all that copypasta garbage.

Puzzle games are hard for people with the attention span of a flea. It's a product of modern entertainment reducing your activities to what amounts to pushing a button for a reward like a rat.

I played this a bit on the weekend and I have to say I really have no idea what I am doing. 😀

There are so many areas that are unreachable, no matter ho many times I try, but at the same time it does not really seem to matter since I can just keep walking through to the next level without any consequences.

Anyway, kind of a fun little game I guess, even though I don't really see the point of it all.

Hola Keith,

That's the main point of the game: figuring out how to get those seemingly unreachable pieces. It always has something to do with the "special" form of time travel you're using on each map.

If you get really stuck, check out a solution on Youtube and it'll all make sense. I needed help in a few places, but I don't remember ever feeling like the devs were trying to intentionally frustrate me.

Thanks Liet! I don't feel as if the devs are messing with me, I do actually enjoy trying to get the solution, but at the same time I have no problem just running to the next area. I imagine once I get a better feel for the mechanics, I should be able to do better.

I forgot people post solutions on Youtube, I will have to check those out (some of the puzzles really do seem impossible, even though I know they must be attainable).

Fun game to throw on while I listen to music or a podcast. 😎

KT

Glad I could help. Those solutions were invaluable, there were one or two that I would have NEVER gotten without a video solution.

You don't care for the ingame music? I enjoyed it so much I bought the soundtrack (it was on sale at some site), and I enjoy hearing it rewind as I reverse time in the game. 🙂

To be honest I have not even really listened to it yet. 😀 Maybe I'll check it out tonight. I do plan on trying to make some headway in the game this evening.

Clearing a world, so getting all the puzzles and making a picture, adds one ladder to the last world (you need like 5 I think). So you need to get all the puzzles in each world to reach the last one. You can run to the end of each world without picking up a single puzzle piece, but there's no point, really, as you need all the puzzle pieces to finish the game. The running through will allow you to see the other worlds faster, but that's it. You still need to solve every puzzle and get to each piece 🙂

Anyway, amazing game, one of the better ones for me, ever. Once you figure out a puzzle by yourself it is SO rewarding, the feeling - it's almost as if you accomplished an impossible task and figured it out all by yourself 🙂
