[brag] I'm gonna be a private tutor! [/brag]

Some rich Korean family moved to the states about a month ago. I'll be tutoring a 5th grader with his english and homework.

I actually have a higher ambition for him outside the academics. I know what *I* went through when I first came to the good ol' US of A when I was 13. I plan to teach him about many good things that US' culture has to offer. I want to take him out and have him become familiar with every day american activities. I want reduce his adjusting difficulties as much I can within my abilities because I know what I endured was very tough...

What goes around, comes around. Thank you, God. 🙂

<-- obviously Korean

[edit]
additional info: I'll be tutoring him twice a week, two hours a day, but his parents want me there everyday. If I tutor every weekdays, I'll be making $250 in cold cash weekly 🙂

Maybe the Korean parents don't want you exposing their child to US culture and just want you to stick to his english homework.

No we had an interview and his mom felt very content with what I had to offer. She was looking for just that kind of tutor, someone who can develop a relationship with like an older brother. 🙂

Looks like they should consider hiring someone else for the English tutoring.

How old are you? $250 a week is nothing and $25 an hour is ripping you off. My sister and I were tutored in Math when we were in high school for $50 a hour, and the guy (a high school math teacher who came to our house after school hours) was a friend of ours too; usually charged $75/hour for other people.

Yea, but it sounds like all he's doing is playing with the kid.

He says he'll be tutoring in "english and other homework" too. Education isn't cheap and the family is rich... Then again, this is something for the OP to answer.

I'd like to know where you grew up. In my town, tutoring was free for the first ~100 or so kids in High School (provided by the Honor Society) and could be had after that for anywhere from $8-$15 an hour from the Honor Society. Granted if you're a real professional like your math teacher, $75 is quite common. But for a HS kid to be charging $50 an hour, you must've grown up in a very wealthy neighborhood.

My HS and college had a similar setup, I don't know where the funds came from but tutoring was free and usually smart kids could volunteer and sometimes get hired to tutor by the school. My tutoring wasnt provided through the school...this was an outside job. Northern NJ FYI.

So much for "Under the table"

That's $1000/month in cold cash. Good money.
I am currently looking into reselling cocain.

While my sister was going for her PHD in California, she spent a ton of time tutoring young foreign girls that were new to the country and made awesome money doing so. I didn't realize it was so common, too bad I'm a dumbass and no one would want me teaching their kid anything 🙂.

$75 to 100 an hour is outrageous

that is 2-3x what teachers make

at $75 / hour you are looking at 150,000 a year which is insane unless you are limited to 1-2 hours a day or something

i dont know who can afford to pay for this but imo they are surely getting ripped of being charged $50-$75 an hour for being tutored by a HS student

why wouldn't you do this full time because surely you cannot expect to make 100K+ straight out of college

Congradulations LOLyourFace ... Sounds like a great way to earn some extra money. I hope you have some fun in the process.
