BP550 vs. 550VX

Looking to power an i5-2500k, gtx460 (with an upgrade in 1-2 years), 2x2gb of RAM, a regular desktop mobo, 4 case fans and a CPU HSF. It's basically between the two subject PSU's. Which would be the best choice? On newegg, the Antect is $35 cheaper and moddular. Is there any good reason to buy the corsair over the antec?

The folks at JonnyGuru rate the Corsair as a 9.5/10. It appears to be a Channel Well built unit and should be an excellent choice.

The Antec unit looks to be a Delta-built unit and isn't bad...but I prefer the Corsair unit myself.

So.. that's worth the extra 35 bucks and non modular?

It's up to you whether it's worth the extra $$ or not. As for modular...that's less of an issue for me than for many folks.
I have a Corsair HX620 in my build. it's modular, but I still have MOST of the cables connected. It IS nice having the option of how many to use...but in the end, your power requirements dictate that anyway. I have a couple of non-SATA drives, so I need some molex-style connectors in my case.
IMO, the build quality of the Corsair is better than the Antec, so for me, the $35 is worth it. For you? That's up to you.

Both are good PSU's...but IMO, the Corsair is better.

The Corsair has a 5 year warranty...the Antec, only 3 years.

Doing a bit of reading on Newegg, it looks like the Antec is currently $54.99. Not a bad price for that.
The Corsair 550VX is $80.

At or near the Corsair price point, you have several outstanding PSU's to choose from:

Seasonic 520 $89.99 Modular

Seasonic 620 Modular $99.99

Corsair 650 Modular $119. ($109 AR)

XFX 550 watt...NOT Modular

XFX 650 watt MODULAR $88.99 ($68.99 AR)

You have a wide variety of quality PSU's to choose from. MOST (if not all) of the ones I posted are Seasonic builds.

Prefer the Corsair......in addition to what BoomerD said above, the Corsair can manage 50W more output on the +12V than the Antec.

More output, better guts, longer warranty. You get what you pay for....and the Corsair just gives more.
