“The mounting evidence clearly demonstrates that this tragedy was preventable and the direct result of BP’s reckless decisions and actions,” said Hackett in the statement. “We recognize that ultimately we have obligations under federal law related to the oil spill, but will look to BP to continue to pay all legitimate claims as they have repeatedly stated that they will do.”

The information disclosed this week “indicates BP operated unsafely and failed to monitor and react to several critical warning signs during the drilling” the statement continued. “BP’s behavior and actions likely represent gross negligence or willful misconduct.”
Anadarko had no employees on the well and was a non-operating partner in the project. A subsidiary of Mitsui & Co. Ltd. of Japan had a 10 percent stake. The rig was owned by Transocean Ltd. of Switzerland and operated by BP.
Anadarko also hinted at potential legal action against BP.

BP still has not said what caused the blast at the well.

Isn't it interesting that BP after all this time has not said one work to WHY?????? Hmmmmmm... It will be interesting to see how this goes down especially when Anadarko sues BP.

Should be interesting when they all start pointing fingers at each other. I kind wonder if we will ever know. Kinda like 9/11.

Everyone knows this - by now. Why post a new thread.

/

Because the knives are out between the partners. They don't want to (and shouldn't) be legally responsible for the actions of a member. I'm sure there's a clause in their agreement regarding this. Mitsui may say something similar as well.

Why post a new thread because, it should be know that BP did fuck up and the REAL truth to why people died and tar balls are washing up for something that could have been diverted and avoided happened anyway. Pretty sad... really, meanwhile where is the CEO of BP? Vacationing at a high roller yacht event while oil still gushes out. It's beyond comprehension as to why BP is controlling this spill or even a company if they can't even stay till the leak is taken care of...

At least we know where BP's priorities are.

How can they not say how it happened?

Anyway, apparently the new estimate we heard about last week was in fact one BP has been kicking around internally since last MONTH. There are going to be heads rolling on this (unless their lobbyists really have leashed congress, which is possible).

I still say the government should have done a better job with inspections.

The poor govt oversight is just one piece of the puzzle. Inspections of rigs/ work practices and approval of well design and construction will have to be examined to figure out the disconnect between govt regulators and drilling contractors/oil companies.

I'm sure their are clauses in partner contracts with BP that will indemnify them of cost and perhaps liability of a spill.
