According to this snippet from the LATimes, there are indeed 2 sets of envelopes backstage at the Oscars, one on each side of the stage

http://www.someecards.com/entertainment/celebrities/emma-stone-oscars/

"
In an undisclosed location, the partners tabulate votes and stuff two sets of winning envelopes, partly as another security measure and also to aid the show's flow. Stationed with their signature briefcases on opposite sides of the stage, either [PricewaterhouseCoopers partners, Brian] Cullinan or [Martha] Ruiz can dispense envelopes to presenters. At the end of the evening, each accountant will have given out about half of the envelopes.

And the third set? "There is no third 'set' sitting somewhere that has the winning cards in the winning envelopes,' Cullinan said. However, the remaining, unstuffed envelopes and nominee cards are shipped to a second secret location, just in case some disaster prevents access to the completed sets. After the ceremony, unused cards and envelopes are destroyed by an industrial document-destruction company.

About as useful and interesting as JD Power and Associate awards.

Eh they weren't too bad. It's definitely not must see tv but decent enough to watch while browsing the web at the same time - I wasn't glued to my seat exactly. First time I've watched any awards show in years. I think I've only seen the Oscars before. Never seen the Grammys, Emmys or Espys even once. Just parts of the Oscars.

I was mostly hoping for political fireworks. I missed the opening monologue where I think Kimmel tossed some softballs on Trump. Then after that it was all tame, with Kimmel later mentioning Trump tweeting once. Nobody said anything overtly political. Viola Davis said one stupid thing in an otherwise passionate speech, where she basically said the movie business is the only business that celebrates life, or something to that effect. It was very tone deaf and dumb.

Anyone actually watched those movies? Are they as good as they say they were?

La La Land is overrated IMO. It's a decent movie, but catered way too much to Hollywood types IMO. Kind of annoying, actually, how full of itself it made Hollywood seem. However, I felt that Emma Stone's acting in that movie was stellar. Ryan Gosling's not so much though.

Arrival is very good and was one of my favourite movies last year. Already bought it on Blu-ray. It was a damn shame that Amy Adams wasn't nominated for her leading role, because she was the entire movie.

I haven't seen Moonlight yet, but everyone I know who saw it said it was totally awesome and deserved the Best Picture award, so it's definitely on my list to see. Also on that list are Hidden Figures and Hell or High Water.

We shoulda known that Moonlight or Hidden Figures was going to win this year. After being called racists last year, the Academy needed to pick a "black film" to redeem themselves among the liberal elites.

Just like Arrival wasn't going to win, Hidden Figures wasn't going to win. Neither were truly in the running. However, just about everyone I know who saw it thinks Moonlight is great.

No need for conspiracies here. Let it have its due.

It seems from what Beatty stated, that they gave him the wrong envelope.
Aren't they supposed to have iron clad security around that stuff, Brinks trucks and shit? What a fiasco? They just lost a ton of cred with that one.

I watched the Oscars for maybe 3 straight years (the only awards show I've ever watched, period, but not something I've made a habit of), recorded but never watched the last two years. Recorded last night, doubt I'll watch it. I read the paper. I don't need to see that fiasco. I saw one of those movies, "Fences." It was pretty fine. Denzel wasn't even on my radar before that, I didn't like Malcolm X, thought Spike went all Hollywood, bah! But Denzel was fantastic in Fences, probably in no small part because he did it on Broadway. Same for Viola Davis.

Yeah, there were no nominations for black actors last year, so this year... fill in the blanks.

Latest news, the two PcW partners will not be back for future Oscars. Not sure if they will face further discipline with their own people at the accounting firm. That guy sure looks like an older more muscular Matt Damond.
