boycott sb live!

this pos pisses me off. all my friends (5 of them) have problems with this sound card all the time. too bad aureal died.

i say we stick it to sb live and not buy it. anand should stop recommending it.

whatdyya think?

I definitely think the AnandTech recommendation for the SBLive should stop. Disregarding the bugs this sound card has (and my PIII system exhibits these symptoms), other sound cards offer far more right now.

What kinda bugs are there anyway? I thought the Live is supposed to be a mid to high range product?

I'll stick to my SB-Live x-gamer thank you very much. I've had a total of ZERO problems since I bought my card.

Everything I hear about SB-Live problems, usually involves a VIA chipset.

I've had my SBLive for a while now, running on a via chipset and a thunderbird with windows 2000. I have had absolutely no problems and i absolutely love it, in fact i have my 6 piece and dual subwoofer surround sound system hooked up to it and it is wonderful.

I don't know what all this SB Live! boycott crap is about! I've installed SEVERAL SB Live!s in systems and they all work perfect. I haven't installed them in a VIA based system so that might be a problem. All my Intel machines (with Intel chipsets) work perfect like I said. I'm planning on getting a Hercules Game Theatre but that is because I like the cool break out box, NOT because I'm having problem with my SB Live!

Boycott the Via chipset too. There are more problems that are greater on the "Sh!t, my systems doesn't work" scale. My SB-Live has been fine. My Mothers has been fine, my friends has been fine. They also just happened to set a standard that your santa cruz and *edge cards have to beat.

blah whatever.

I have an X-Gamer Live! 5.1

works great, no problems at all running Win2k w/AMD Thunderbird Athlon.

I was really happy with creative... The thing came with some good real software too!!

Full versions of Unreal Tournament, Dues Ex, and Thief 2. That enough was worth the $90 price tag. I got it after my Aureal 2 based card (SonicVortex) died. Haven't had a single complaint since.

why boycott Via? mine is working perfectly fine!

just cause you can't pick good equipment (besides the chipset), doesn't mean that the chipset is at fault 😛

j/k!

yeah I've never bought anything made by Creative, and I don't plan to now.. especially after Aureal..

How are you people sure it's the SBLive, and not the chipset (or whatever else is common)?? Or drivers.. for either. Until someone at either corperation says something it's all guesses.

SBLive cards are VERY picky when it comes down to hardware configurations.

I still to this day cannot get the Line In to work on my current box with the AMD 750 chipset. I will NEVER buy another SB product. This thing has been nothing but trouble.

Well I have the horrid Via686B + SBLive! combo and it works perfectly fine (with the exception of the fack that I practically busted off the AUX in connector 😉)

But I still think Anand should stop recommending them...I think there are far better cards available right now. Especially for a high-end system.

I'm with Stefan. I also have an X-Gamer with zero problems on Win 2000 and a KX133 Via chipset. Again, zero problems, I love the card. I think most of the problems are with the value and some MP3 line of the cards. Go figure, huh?

Hmmm, I just bought a SB Live myself, from the for sale forum here. It hasn't arrived yet, so I don't know how it'll perform. I know that the Santa Cruz is better, but the cheapest one seem to be over $70. The SB Live! is a whopping $35, shipped. I think it'll be at least half as good as the Santa Cruz! 🙂

I've heard of people with VIA and Intel (i815) chipsets complaining about SBLive issues. On my old LX board I had no hardware problems with it, but it doesn't seem to play nice with newer motherboards for some reason.

No more Creative for me. The last version of Liveware is more than a year old. My Hercules GTXP has been out for only a few months, and they already released 3 different driver version for win2k. If the Live works good for you then keep it, but I don't see any reason for someone building a new system buying a Creative card anymore.

Been running a sblive with amd 1 gig and msi k7t turbo since december, no problems. It has via chipset and hasn't caused any problems. Though there may be better cards, I havn't had a problem.

nortexoid,

Before you do, you need to get rid of that Creative DVD.

It is possible to have VIA chipsets play nice with SB Live!s, I have had no trouble doing that on most of the MSI VIA boards. It's only when you buy a lowly board like Abit you'll run into trouble.
