You do realize that Best Buy has many morons that shop there. Stating that linksys is no good because you see many returns to Best Buy is pathetic.
FRY'S but morons shop their too. just cant get away from the damn morons!

First off chooco first off ur an idiot and u dun need to do a thing with MAC address when i got my linksys router i plugged the bloody thing in.... set its settings in setup changed my ip to an internal one and i have been up and running for a lil over a year....quit complaining and give people ur exact setup....like what u set ur internal ip to maybe a screen shot of ur setup panel on the router.....or just list the info.....that would help quite a bit better than raging an all out flame-bait post on linksys....cuz quite frankly i have linksys router, modem, and both computers have Linksys NICS and never had a problem with them...

Actually he may have to clone the Mac address. Some ISPs recognize the MAC address of the first computer placed on their network and that is the only one that can get on.

hey hey hey jr. time out there, your gonna get yourself into trouble flaming like that on your first post. you have to build yourself up first. then you flame 😉.

i have a problem.
I have the linksys EZXS55W 5 port switch and I have a cable connection and 2 computers. Cable is connected to Uplink port. Computer 1 is connected to port 1 and computer 2 to port 2. Internet and everything works for computer 1. But for computer 2 nothing is working, internet and all, and even file sharing. Ipconfig shows that computer 2 does not have a ip assigned from dhcp server. I tried changing the ports that its connected to on the switch. Still doesn't work. What should I do? I tried releasing and renewing ip address and also tried different nic cards and still no go. help plz!

omg you payed 250 WITH a discount? the most expensive router i have seen was 180 without a discount.

Sukhoi, yes they do let me have 2 IPs. i wanted to cut it to share just 1 IP but it didn't work out so i put the hub back on to have several different IPs for my house and they work great.

Idiot, you only think my posts are dumb because i do stuff that you don't do. this router DOES NOT WORK. there are several guys at OzForums who also say their router doesn't work after i told me my story. a kid posted saying how nobody could connect to his server, i suggested that maybe his router doesn't work. he took the router off and he says it works great now, another guy who posted after that also said he had a similar problem with his router, all of which are from Linksys.

i tried to setup the router again just 2 days ago so i could LAN a 500mb file to my Linux computer through a local HTTP transfer but this time it can't even figure out an IP. click release IP then click renew IP and it still says the ip is 0.0.0.0 so i manualy type it in again and i can connect to ICQ but i can't view webpages or ping anybody (the standard 'ping google.com' command). put the clone MAC address in and it still can't do anything so i had to put the hub back on and do the transfer the slower way.

Was he forwarding the correct ports?

yes, he said that he set the game port to connect to the computer in the network which had the game server. in his case it was 191.168.1.103
he said people could see the server in the list but they could not connect to it, it would say it failed to connect, doesn't mean it timed out, it just means the connection was denied.

Choco, if it makes you feel any better, I had the same problem with my SMC Barricade router. At one point, I thought SMC products were crap as well and thought about getting a Linksys or Netgear router. I decided to wait to see if a new firmware would come out and fix the problem. Low and behold, I updated the firmware and it works fine (most of the time). I've seen posts where people have the same problem as you and it did turn out to be a defective router because when they returned it and got another one, it did work. But don't go flaming Linksys because you bought a busted router dude. I know how you feel, and it's crazy that you have to pay $20 to ship it back, but they'll pay shipping to get a new one out to you, and there's a pretty good chance that it might fix your problems. Just something to think about...my 2 cents. Good luck on your situation 🙂

regarding port forwarding, is SPI enabled? if it is, disable it since having it enabled disables all port forwarding.

The SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) option is currently an experimental feature. If you enable this feature, it will DISABLE THE FORWARDING FEATURES. The reason forwarding is disabled is to test the SPI and make sure forwarding is not a factor. In the released version, forwarding will not be disabled when SPI is enabled.

did you have to update the firmware, or did it have the latest when you purchased it? i know alot of people over at dslreports swear by doing a hard reset (something like 10-20 secs, mentioned in the linksys manual) to fix numerous problems with the router. i would try that and see what happens. be sure to write down/print out your settings because when you perform a hard reset, it sets everything to the default when you bought it. good luck.

you would have to tell the other guy that, mine just can't connect.
i borrowed my friend's Netgear router and it works ok, it disconnects every so often but the clone MAC address works and the IP can be detected automatically. i think this flame war is over.

I am personally thrilled with Linksys products and for the most part theirt ech support is good. I purchased both a linksys wireless AP switch/router and the D Link equivalent to attemp a wireless network with 4 PC's two of which are over 300 feet away through 2 brick walls and 4 wood studded walls. I have both D link and Linksys wireless cards on the far PC's. At first the D Link router wouldn't even let it connect to the D Link card. Afer installing the Linksys router instead it connected fine with a 40% signal strength. On the other machine useing the linksys card, it will not connect with up to an 80% signal strength. The linksys equipment is stronger more rebust and seems to work flawlessly dealing with whatever change I make without a hitch. The tech support is pretty good once you able to actually get someone on the phone. Although I did speak once with one person who had no clue what he was talking about an I let him know so.
