Boycott BF2 Booster Packs

Isnt it true that anything published by EA is a weak attempt at coding and creativity and that half of the people on this board will continue to purchase everything they publish even while complaining about it? The other half wont understand why all the bugs are a problem in such a large project... half of that half still wont realize that fact when the fourth expansion for BF2 comes out and some of the original bugs still exist.

Well sign me up for the boycott. I'm casting my vote by not buying this garbage anymore. I found SF2 on sale so bought that. Still buggy or even MORE so. I do love playing the game but my tolerance level has been reached. If I can't find servers to play on that don't have these "packs" then thats it for me and I move on to other games. Be a long while/maybe never until I buy another EA LAMES game.....

QFT! Im signing that 2!

I'm buying the expansion packs. BF2 is cheap to play compared to WOW, I'm happy to pony up, as long as they continue to tweak/patch the core software as well.

Well I do hate what BF2 is doing to me, but I don't hate EA in general. Since I got my PSP all I've been enjoying is EA games and they aren't bad at all. Burnout, Need for Speed, SSX, and hey even Madden isn't too bad.

I've been away from BF2 for so long though that I have no idea about these "booster packs". Whatever they are, since they cost more $$$ for me to play I hate it.

I just quit playing BF2/SF a couple weeks ago. I'm even more happy that I did when I hear about this booster pack bullshit.

I quit once I got to the 50,000 point rank, because I know i'll never get 200,000.

So whatever, I'm not ever investing anymore money into EA;s money pit games

yeah, what are the booster packs 😕

i'm in on the boycott as well. i haven't played play bf2 in a while and would have sold it if not for my son. is this like something he's going to need to buy to play online?

edit- ok, i see, they're like mini expansion packs. well, thats the end of the line for him 😛 i'm not spending anymore $$ on ea games.

it really sux that they bought the nfl rights. i held off this years madden but i dunno if i'll be able to pass on their next one.

That's why I play UT2k4. It was $40 to buy, free to play, and well patched. I've got all the expansions I want through the user community including total conversion mods. That was the best $40 I ever spent on my computer

Booster packs explanation required. OP please edit your original post so everyone knows what they are and dosent have to google it 🙂 which im about to go and do now.

I play BF2 all the time, it's fun and cheap. That's what it's supposed to be about, no? Being fun?

Ok i think ive got the jist of it. I think its an f-ing dumb idea, i HATE games with too many expansion packs, which is basically what these "booster packs" are, tiny expansions distributed digitally for a lower than usual price, 9.99USD it said where i read. Didnt see anything about a monthly fee though, just $10 per booster pack.

Bit off topic but just thinking about other game developers. Blizzard does everything right, only 1 expansion per game, not releasing garbage and taking their time with games, its been what 8 years since starcrafts release? have we seen starcraft 2? hell no, any announcements? nope, i would rather wait another 8 years than have a half baked version of the game. I would never pay monthly for the likes of WOW, but i have played it and it is as addicative as diablo II was for me, definately a very good game. Blizzard is what all other game companies should aspire to be like, they set the example. EA were once good but they went to hell when they got rich i suppose.

If any upcoming patches or booster packs contain widescreen support then I'm all for it.

$10 is nothing. Heck, we've all paid close to $10 to see a bad movie. Did you boycott the movie production company? If it gets EA to provide new maps, weapons and patches then I have no problem paying a little bit.

God, finally. Someone who actually puts things into perspective.

You people bitch and moan too much.

Perspective?
Half life 2 - HL: Lost Coast (Free for HL2 players). Updated and added maps for HL2DM, plus patches.
UT2004 - Multiple bonus packs (adding new vehicles and maps), and obviously patches.
Quake 4 - Map pack released. And from the website:
and stay tuned for much more in 2006!

My "perspective" is this:
The 3 main FPS franchises offer updated content, patches, new maps etc FOR FREE and ongoing support for their products.

Therefore, putting things into perspective, EA still suck, and people should bitch and moan until they stop sucking.

I quit playing BF2 in July out of disgust with issues. I quit playing BF1942/RtR after the Secret Weapons(IIRthe name C) expansion came out. The reason I quit playing BF1942/RtR was that after Secret Weapons came out, I could play on any Server, but when a SW Map was played I'd get kicked for not having the Map, Weapons, etc. It became a total PITA. If EA is going to release these Mini-Expansions, anyone who wants to play is going to have to buy every single one of them. If this is what EA wants, just make BF2 Pay to Play so everyone knows what they're getting from the get go.

EA can churn out sh!t people has already complained about, but yet for some strange reason, they will continue to buy it.

EA stll has alot of good quality games. As for BF2, I'm a die hard player. Even with all it's bugs and complaints it's still fun period!

And they should give you this stuff for free because............ You sucked their dicks? You helped them develop the game? You already pay monthly? Your a cheap ass bastard? You just plain like to bitch and whine?

Cry me a fvcking river.

Do you cry like a baby when you hear that MTG type card games release a new booster pack and charge you for it? OMG you have to spend MORE money for MORE content?!?!?! WTF is this world coming too!!!!!!

Idiots.

It's weird when people say "EA can turn out crap and people will eat it up" in reference to the best multiplayer FPS of 2005.

Try $30...

While I find it annoying that EA uses this business model, I can see both sides of this argument.

Many of the mods in HL2 are free, though you had to pay the higher price for the "Silver" or "Gold edition of HL2 in order to qualify for Day of Defeat: Source, for example. Otherwise, several mods were paid upgrades as well.

EA has a very good game in BF2, but it's unfortunate that it's not as well executed as say... UT2004. EA has been building this game franchise since BF1942, so it's not like they don't have the code base upon which to build. While I really enjoy the game (and I did buy the SF expansion pack), it's annoying that there are so many design/programming issues. I agree with lxskllr' post above, UT2004 is a great value... BF2 is just not in that league, though it could have been if it were better executed.

EA has already announced yet another "BOOSTER" pack, European Forces... LOL.
