CHAPEL HILL, N.C. ? Shawn Turschak of Chapel Hill was tired of someone stealing McCain-Palin campaign signs from his yard. Turschak, with a degree in electrical engineering, hooked up a third sign to a power source for an electric pet fence Monday and also put up a surveillance camera.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that a 9-year-old boy with an Obama-Biden sign grabbed the McCain-Palin sign and got a jolt on Tuesday.

The boy's father, Andrew Noble, upset that his son had been shocked, showed up at Turschak's door. Soon an Orange County sheriff's deputy also showed up at the Turschak's home.

Noble said his son just wanted to see how the sign was put together. Turschak said the boy intended to swap out the signs.

Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass said he doesn't plan to file charges

Hmm, wonder if it was an atot member?

Wiring up signs to electrocute someone is absurd, but what kind of parent uses their 9 year old kid to swap campaign signs on someone else's property?

A pathetic parent? Don't fuck with a bored engineer.

Thats good, glad that he learned a lesson and wasnt hurt too badly by it.

Hopefully in the future he will keep his hands off of other people's property so that nothing worse will happen to him. Some people take someone messing with their property seriously, and rightly so. If you try to steals someone's stuff you could end up dead.

"Noble said his son just wanted to see how the sign was put together."

Sure, lol

Can't say I really have much sympathy for a kid who trespasses and pulls stunts like this. Seems like a relatively harmless way to teach somebody a lesson.

Notice no charges were filed against the Engineer.

Yea, I am voting Obama, but man, that's funny as hell. Little rat not only got caught, but got zapped in the bargain. Good stuff. (Very glad he wasn't hurt too seriously)

No, it's awesome! People shouldn't be going into other people's lawns, stealing their signs.

If it was in a Blue state, like Mass., the Engineer would be in prison for child endangerment. Glad NC has some smart cops. I can't believe a parent would get the police involved in his own crime spree.

It's possible that the kid has just been heavily influenced by his parents and decided to swap the signs himself. I don't think it's all that unlikely.

pic from my europe trip. Notice anything conspicuous?

Yeah so we figured out out all of the white ribbon was electrified when I leaned over the fence. Must have jumped 3 feet straight up. What did I learn? Don't touch the fucking white ribbon. The kid in the story could use some of the same education.

I removed all signs on the street I used to live (I wouldn't touch signs in anyone's yard). Anyone voting based on seeing one of those signs shouldn't be voting anyway.

The man who did this called in on a local radio station and explained that he even put one of those "Warning! Risk of electrical shock!" signs right near the electrified one... I feel bad for the kid, but he shouldn't of been in someone elses yard AND he should of read the warning sign .

I don't like McCain, but this is great. Children need to learn that theft or vandalism of someone else's property is completely unacceptable. They also need to be electrocuted from time to time. Makes sense to combine the two.

I think the only purpose of campaign signs is to be broken/stolen so the owners of the signs can raise holy hell about how the other side is destroying campaign signs.

Are you trying to excuse criminal trespassing and destruction of property?

I have no clue how you could possibly get that from my post.
