I was once a Boy Scout. We had scouts in my troop that ended up being gay, and many times more who ended up being Atheist. Funny how none of us gave a shit.

Of course, the Atheists we had were also mature enough to just say the "God" part of the Scout Oath, as they recognized it was not a literal recognition of God but a recognition of a moral standard represented by God.

I was also a scout who stopped at the life rank. Nobody cared if you we're atheist or pagan or what not and I know we had some gays. I did hear rumours that religious questions would come up during the eagle review board, but I was never in one. During my life review they asked me if an atheist should be able to be an Eagle and I said yes and nothing happened.

It's a private organization. Let them do as they wish.

At no point in anything I've said about the Boy Scouts or any other private organization have I said they shouldn't be allowed to do as they wish.

This story isn't about that.

I did some of my most juvenile delinguent antics while I was in the Scouts. Made it to Star but dropped out cause it was just not cool to be in the Boy Scouts anymore.

I got to First Class and quit. But we did some seriously awesome trips. Zion National Park in Utah is like another planet.

Clearly a sign of desperation on Perkins' part. Perhaps he knows that his point of view is not as popular as it once was and has to wring as much out of his dwindling support as he can.

There are gay rights activists who would do the exact same thing Perkins did and they would never be labeled as freaking out in desperation.

Personally I don't care what the Boy Scouts do, they can accept gays they can refuse gays, I don't care. I just hate activists who sensationalize and distort everything they touch.

Fighting a lost cause is desperation, whether it is being done by idiotic social conservatives or gay rights activists.

I have called this what it is.

Typical reaction by Tony Perkins & the FRC, it's a thin and fuzzy line between an organization being friendly to the FRC and their dogma and being an enemy combatant.

I'm sure Tony is busily preparing a scathing article for the next FRC newsletter about how BSA has dissed the FRC and it's members.

The Boy Scouts of America is accepting calls from anyone who wants to let the group know whether it should keep the ban on gay leaders and members.

They are ASKING for an opinion....

That was perhaps the most intelligent thing I have read on these forums in quite a while!!
