CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Three-year-old twins Zyler and Kadyn Sharpe scurried around the boys and girls clothing racks of a narrow consignment store filled with toys. Zyler, wearing rainbow leggings, scrutinized a pair of hot-pink-and-purple sneakers. Kadyn, in a T-Rex shirt, fixated on a musical cube that flashed colorful lights. At a glance, the only discernible difference between these fraternal twins is their hair — Zyler’s is brown and Kadyn’s is blond.

Is Zyler a boy or a girl? How about Kadyn? That’s a question their parents, Nate and Julia Sharpe, say only the twins can decide. The Cambridge, Mass., couple represent a small group of parents raising “theybies” — children being brought up without gender designation from birth. A Facebook community for these parents currently claims about 220 members across the U.S.

“A theyby is, I think, different things to different people,” Nate Sharpe told NBC News. “For us, it means raising our kids with gender-neutral pronouns — so, ‘they,’ ‘them,’ ‘their,’ rather than assigning ‘he,’ ‘she,’ ‘him,’ ‘her’ from birth based on their anatomy.”

Welcome to a brave new world my friends. I wonder how many theybies make it to adulthood? Bizarre that transgenderism has become trendy. What’s your opinion on theybies. Noble and progressive pursuit or the next cool thing that ends up having a negative effect on the child like the wealthy/chic anti-vaxxer parents. I can’t see how this helps the child and more than likely riddle them with psychological issues when they’re older.

Original response is original. Thank you for adding nothing to the conversation, please don’t derail the topic.

Edit: directed to Victorian who was trolling the thread. Welsh posted as I was posting.

Truly one of the most pressing issues facing modern world society today. Fight the good fight dude. Someone has to bear all that concern for the rest of us.

Where did I say it was the most pressing issue? It is an issue, however. Progressive parents causing potential harm to their children over transgenders all of the sudden becoming the latest trend.

I suppose the question raised is... does promoting gender dysphoria harm the majority of children without the... condition? To a simple outsider the obvious answer would be yes. But why, and how? I do wonder how it all pans out.

I know someone riddled with psychological issues right now, it leads to massive concern over fringe beliefs.

I'd say it's alright to operate on a gender assumption early on (although you can do things like picking clothes and toys that don't hew to gender stereotypes), but also keep an open mind as the kid grows up.

And yes, to a degree there's some concern trolling here, even if you didn't explicitly set out to do it. There's a not-so-subtle subtext of "and this is what you get for being so open-minded on gender!" Like we have to throw the baby (that is, acknowledging the complex reality of gender) out with the bath water (the ones who take it a little too far).

Definitely sounds like a pressing issue. btw, what's the population of the US these days? 300 million +?

Wtf. They will be fine. There are so many levels of worse you should be concerned about before these 220 members of a facebook group-s way of raising their kids.

Who cares as long they are brought up to be kind loving peeps ..

You afraid the parents r gonna condition them to turn gay?
You afraid the kids r gonna get bullied in school?
Exactly what are you afraid of here?

Afraid this will introduce psychological issue where there were none before. That 220 will do nothing but grow, and we have no idea what the effects could be on doing this. These parents have drank the kool-aid and their kids ultimately may suffer for it. Growing up to be kind loving peeps is a moot point when you’re slitting your wrist because of the psychological issues you can’t grasp a hold of thanks to trendy mom and pop.

Again a non response from Victorian. Thank you in advance for not trolling the thread. I’d like to hear your opinion but that’s not what you’re offering.

I will however share a humorous anecdote.

Driving home yesterday with the family in the car there was a VW Golf decked out in aftermarket parts and stickers including a decal that looked like blood dripping down from the rear taillights, which my wife remarked on.

Following the VW was a 350Z with a bunch of aftermarket stickers on it including one that said Houston.

My wife said, maybe “she needs the sticker so she knows what city she’s in”.

My elder daughter said, “ that’s not a girl mom, that’s a guy driving”.

My wife wasn’t sure and while the two of them talked about it my youngest pipes up and says, “Maybe they are Transylvanian” :D

My wife and I weren’t sure whether to be shocked or laugh but when we asked her why she said that she said, “it was because the blood made it look like a vampire.” Referring to the Golf.

Its not that I don’t like what it is, your delivery is essentially trolling. How many times have we heard "thank you for your concern", or "clutching pearls..? That offers nothing of substance. I’ll add you to my ignored list.
