running windows 98 with a cable internet connection. my 14 year old boy gets online different times day and night lookin at the porn . . .
any free log on/booting up password protected ware out there?

You want to lock him completely out of the PC? The best you can do is set a password on windows logon or the BIOS. Keep in mind however that both of these methods are trivially circumvented, you cannot prevent use of a machine to which the user has physical access.

BTW, it's been a while since I was 14, but I can tell you I would have been pissed off if my dad completely cut off my computer priviliges.

windows 98 logon password wont stop anybody!
dont want to completely cut off just stop the early 2 am stuff. you know he should be sleeping on school nights

Linksys routers I believe can be set to enfore AOL's parental controls, so that you can only access the internet through AOL. Never looked into it, though, I just know the settings are there in the new Linksys firmware.

If he can bypass 98 logon password, he can bypass almost anything you do to prevent local access. If you install a 3rd party program set to run on startup, he will go to safe mode or boot DOS, just as he would do to bypass the logon.

Could set a BIOS pass and lock the case physically. The only way to bypass BIOS passwords is to remove the battery. Or you could block internet access at a router, do you have one?

Yup. There are schedulers on most recent home routers that will shut down Internet access during certain times.
Of course, holding down the router's reset button will reset that...
And your son can always bypass the router completely, plugging a PC directly into a modem....
