BEIJING -- A 17-year-old boy in northeastern China was so disappointed with the looks of a woman he met over the Internet that he hanged himself after seeing her face-to-face, state media reported Friday.

The unnamed teenager first contacted the woman -- known by her chat moniker "Qunjiaofeiyang", or "Flying Skirt" -- using the popular Chinese online messaging software QQ, Xinhua news agency said.

The girl described herself as a beautiful 19-year-old and the pair chatted on the Web for weeks before arranging a December 26 rendezvous in the nearby city of Mudanjiang, in far northeastern Heilongjiang province.

The boy arrived to discover the woman far less attractive than advertised and 10 years older than him, Xinhua said.

The boy immediately returned home, lost his appetite, and four days later hanged himself from a tree.

Yeah sooooo..... that's a perfectly reasonable reaction....

Must be a nice morale booster for the girl.

Considering that boys out number girls 4 to 1 in some Chinese villages this might not be that unusual.

I applaud his effort to end stupidity in humanity, may more stupid people join him in this quest to raise intelligence worldwide.

Goodbye and good riddance, i would offer a Sayonara, but he doesn't deserve that.

Killing yourself because your date is less attractive than expected might not be that unusual?

Well in a psych ward maybe no but in general population, especially the chinese who live so long and get to be so many?

This is just nature taking care of an emo kid that should not reproduce anyway, kinda like "mother nature: i will be right back, just trowing out the human garbage of today"

I like that thought. :)

her profile says she's making 6000-8000 RMB a month. either that's a lie or she's actually very rich.

He shouldn't get so hung up over her. Sure she wasn't what he expected by why get tied up at that age anyway? She'd just leave him dangling in the wind.

Pun intended? Besides, it's a little too late for him not to do something.
