A spokeswoman for the Manhattan District Attorney's office said he was released after being charged with possession of a controlled substance.

It is alleged he had more than an eighth of an ounce (3.5g) of cocaine.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of up to five and a half years in prison. He is scheduled to return to court on 19 December.

His former agent Tony Denton said after speaking to Boy George's sister, Siobhan that the star denied the drug was his.

Fvck, that seems like a pretty liberal max. for that much in possession.

That much?
An 8 ball is hardly a large amount of blow.

that is not alot for a regular user. I'd imagine that would be enough for one person for one night.

Non-violent drug offenders should not be sent to prision.

Miss me
I know you?ll miss me
I know you?ll miss me blind

Bet you got a good gun
Bet you know how
To have some fun
And then
You turn it around on me
Because I?m better
Than the rest of the men

I say you?ll miss me
And you always do
I say you?ll miss me
Now would I lie to you

Now there?s no need
To demand
Grab my golden hand
I?ll teach you
And you?ll never be sure
If the way that you need
Is too much like greed
Decide if you are rich or you?re poor

Bet you make the fool run
Bet you know how
To make it last 4 ever
But you know
I?m never really sure
If you?re just kissing to be clever

Because this love
That I have to give
Must be better than the kind
It can make you rich
It can make you poor
But I know that
You?ll miss me blind

the current laws need to be enforced

now if the thread was about how drug laws should be changed, then my post would be different

but the law needs to be enforced as written , so until the law is changed, send him to prison (after his fair trial, yada yada yada)

The whole situation is quite odd, either he was strung out like nobody could imagine or I was thinking that he might have done it for attention.

Boy George is clearly a danger to society and MUST be locked up! How can we win the War on Drugs unless we have the resolve to punish the evildoers who seek to ruin our great nation? Unless we act now, these drug dealers and terrorists will acquire nukular weapons of mass destruction!

/me pats secret NSA file on Boy George

He was on an episode of the A-Team. His punishment should be 37 years of Mr. T's pity without parole.

here is an updated story, today

http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/entertainment/gossip/13765267.htm

The pop singer Boy George appeared briefly in criminal court in Manhattan on Wednesday to answer charges related to his October drug possession arrest.

Following a brief meeting at the bench between the singer's lawyer, Lewis Freeman, and prosecutor Craig Ortner, Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Anthony Ferrara postponed the case to March 8.

Boy George, whose birth name is George O'Dowd, wore a long black wool coat, black slacks, a black shirt and gray sneakers with white stripes, and sported a buzz-cut hairstyle and a large blue Star of David tattoo across his forehead.

He said nothing during the court appearance. As he was being hustled out of the courthouse by bodyguards, he answered "yes" when a reporter asked if he still maintained his innocence.

O'Dowd was arrested at his New York apartment Oct. 7 after he called 911 to report a burglary.

Police who went to check out the call charged O'Dowd after finding a small amount of cocaine next to a computer. O'Dowd has been free on bail pending a trial after being charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, allegedly more than an eighth of an ounce of cocaine.

O'Dowd and his lawyer say the drugs found in his apartment were not his.

O'Dowd has had drug problems before. In 1986, he was convicted for heroin possession in England. Two of his friends overdosed in the incident that got him arrested and O'Dowd was forced into a rehabilitation program.
