I think the state has the right to force treatment on minors who's parents are found to be neglectful.

The slippery slope comes when you decide whether or not religion in this case is neglectful.

I think an adult should be able to refuse any kind of treatment, however.

He may only be 14 but his body is still his. The state has no right to inject fluids into him. He should've been talked to by a more convincing individual.

This is sad, and definitely not a case for Darwin award. I saw the movie Jesus Camp and it is terrifying how these kids get so indoctrinated into these stupid beliefs. At 14 he is still a kid and the gov't should have stepped in.

A 14 year old can be allowed to kill himself but I can't pay some whore to suck me off.

I don't look at TV as the bastion of reflecting laws, but didn't they do something like this in House where House tried to get the parents removed as consent for their child's treatment because they refused to let him do his job or something like that? I can't remember exactly what it was, but is that also possible? It seems like a plausible thing to me.

No, this is the problem with not knowing the Bible. Uncleaness comes out of man's mind, not from anything physical - Jesus is the one who spoke against the Jews who practiced ritualistic beliefs out of self righteousness, and Paul spoke against Judaizers who tried to do the same thing within Christianity. Yes, you can be physically dirty, but that kind of dirtiness is inconsequential. There is nothing in the Bible (whch JW's claim they follow) that prohibits someone from undergoing a transfusion. Because of ignorance, this young boy died when he could have lived, and that's the fault of people who teach lies or are willingly ignorant of the truth. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using medical technology to save someone's life, barring that someone else's life isn't taken away (if someone voluntarily gives up his/her own life to save someone, that is a different story).

Ignorance FTL. :(

I personally agree with the judge's decision. For me, its the whole separation of state and church thing. Thats what he believed, thats what he can do.

The boy actually was smoking or having sex (don't remember which but it was something his parents didn't want him to do) and so in order to not blow his cover he made up that whole only God can heal me story. House outsmarted the kid either way. I don't think this would apply here though.

Regaridng that State thing. No, I don't believe the State has the right to force treatment on the kid. It's his choice, his belief, his life. *shrugs*
