Boy, 5, Passes Microsoft Professional Exam.

Great, he can answer multiple choice questions! Now lets see him apply his knowledge to real-world Microsoft problems.

Hmm. Maybe I should take that exam next year when my empoyer's prodev renews. Easy thing to add to my resume to get past HR filters. 😛

I too can braindump a MS test...

Most kids can't even read the word cat at that age....does he even comprehend what he's reading or is he just regurgitating what's been hammered into his brain?

This coming from an MCITP.

Many many children are reading prior to age 5.

But, I do take your point. Will be interesting to see how his life pans out over the next 10 years even.

What grade was he in exactly? My boys could hardly read words that well at 5 (Kindergarten), but the boy was nearly 6, which is good for 1st grade here - some late birthdays are still 5, most are 6. The standard here is level C by end of Kindergarten, which is basically 1 or 2 line short sentences per page. It's not until 1st grade that they are finally reading the majority of things on their own due to instruction on word/language structure. Maybe they are just ahead with that in the UK. I wonder if he took the standard exam that he had to read and comprehend all words on screen including scenarios/paragraphs.

Maybe that's why we needed common core here. To catch up with the rest of the world. I bet my kids wouldn't be reading like they are without it - it was instituted just last year. They are asked to come up with stories using specific words and to draw out pictures about it. And to explain why something is the way it is, with written words using their limited vocabulary. Practically every night with homework I'm surprised at what they're asked to do with English. And you thought the new math was interesting...

I wonder how much of the test was done by the kid and what portion was done by the dad. I'd guess dad was involved in almost all of it.

This has a kind of bubble boy feel to it.

His dad probably helped out

Not if it is a certified result. The test taker cannot have any assistance with the test. And the test can only be given at an authorized test center.

With that said, it is entirely possible that the child could have memorized from a brain dump but could very well be some type of prodigy with this stuff, not unlike music or math prodigy's.

At times like this, I wonder if this is due to an intelligent kid, or a shoddy test that can easily be completed by a five year-old.

:hmm:
