I have a Slam Man, which is a boxing dummy with blinking lights you hit. I picked up some 14oz boxing gloves today. Haven't used them yet, they had 12/14/16oz for the Everlast ones I was looking at. I'm not trying to become a boxer, just want to do a little boxing on my Slam Man for 20 minutes a session 3 or maybe 4 times a week. For anyone here who's boxed, when working out would I notice much of a difference if I had bought the 16 over the 14? I can still take them back and get the 16 (or even 12) I'm just not sure what 2 extra oz's either way would really do.

Sixteen ounces are only slightly heavier, but if you're throwing a couple hundred punches, it adds up. Honestly though, your glove size doesn't really matter if you're just gonna be workin' out with them. As long as you didn't buy the tiny 6oz MMA gloves, you're gonna be fine.

does not really matter. in boxing different fights use different glove weights depending on fighter preferences because getting hit w/ a 12 oz glove and a 16 oz glove feel totally different, throwing the punches, not so much.

I think the glove weight depends on the fighters' weight class, not personal preference. There are different brands of gloves that are the same weight, but some are more "pillowy" than others, and a fighter may prefer one brand over another. But I don't think they are allowed to choose the weight of their gloves.

when fighters negotiate fights the weight of the gloves and brand is something that is considered, in the pacquaio de la hoya fight there was a lot of negotiation for the weight of the gloves, de la hoya wanting smaller 8 oz. and pacman wanting the 10oz.
