Box on carpet. Static electricity danger?

Right now I have my box on the carpet in my apartment. What can I put inbetween the case and the carpet to eliminate any problems with static electricity zapping my computer?

By "box," do you mean your computer? If I learned anything in Physics, it was that charge on a conductor, will go to the outside of the conductor. That's why the computer's case is made of metal. So as long as your mobo is properly installed in the case (and your case is made of some conducting material), you shouldn't have to worry too much about zapping your case (just don't zap any of the components directly).

I personally think its just plain a bad idea to put a computer on carpet, after I use to "gather" electricity as a kid and shock the pong game into giving me free games.

But honestly, the worse thing about putting a box on carpet is it acts like a vacuum cleaner. After opening a box that has been sitting on carpet for only six months and not being able to discern whether there was chips on the peripheral boards or not (there was that much dust in it). I was honestly amazed that it still ran.

I would get it up off the carpet even if only several inches, if static is a problem where you live (dry air), then you can mix up a spray bottle of downy and water and spray it on the carpets in your computer room. Downy is a pretty good antistatic compound.
