So my bank was taken over by the one I switched away from (figures)- and I received my new box of checks, and the celophane was torn and the box was ripped open. Ordered new ones of course.

Are the US Postal workers gettting that blatant now?

It's either that Wag, or the USPS treats the packages in the same fine manner that UPS & FedEx does :p

If you don't have a locking mailbox, always have them deliver the new checks to the bank for you to pickup. If they came to your locked mailbox, I'd suspect that USPS's equipment damaged it. Were any missing?

I would immediately close the account and open a new one.

You may be on your way to being the next victim of identity theft.

They have your bank account number. They might have more.

Also, get your credit reports a month or two from now and go over them with a fine toothed comb.
